I'm embarassed to say that I didn't even know she was still alive up until this news of her passing. I remember her most from Spartacus but she was also in a lot of critically acclaimed movies during her career.

That's really sad. I enjoyed her performance in Howl's Moving Castle. Rest In Peace.

If I remember correctly she won an Emmy for that role and was nominated for a Golden Globe. The woman was an amazing actress and she will be missed. |

It's always tragic for me when a Classic Film star passes away because it's just another reminder how so few of these stars are left.
But I do think it is pretty cool to see people discussing this here and on classic film boards. It's like my two fandoms are connected somehow. |

Oh wow, I wonder if my dad knows - he considers her one of his favorites. For a full list of her roles, go here.
Edit: He does, and is feeling a little sad. |

THE Jean Simmons film that must be seen is, of course, Angel Face.

I'm also sad to hear of her passing and condolences to her family at her loss. I remembered who she was when I first read she passed away on MSNBC but I had forgotten she was in Howl's. What I did remember was what she looked like from the movie of Guys and Dolls (I have "If I Were A Bell" stuck in my head now, FWIW ) and that she had been in a memorable episode of ST:TNG (The Drumhead).

I'm a fan of classic movies (pre 1960) and anime, and this is a tragedy on both ends.
A lot of people have died in 2010, and it's not even February yet. |
