Round 4 Groups C and D finals is now closed.
In the first match we have one of anime's elite forces for good (and mecha!) facing off against one of anime's elite forces for girls - interesting match-up! In the other, we have two contenders who struggled mightily to overcome tenacious opponents: one a group of alien scientists in the bodies of kids, the other a ragtag group of space garbage collectors. Again, an interesting match-up. Should be lively! Mini-game results.
The mini-game draws closer to conclusion, as with the Game Club's defeat, Ggultra is knocked out of the running. Aylinn and Mow should be pleased to know that they are now guaranteed at least some prize, as Dtm now can at best only hope to tie Aylinn for third (in the event that this occurs, the prize will be split evenly between the two - $25 each). As to whether Aylinn or Mow will take second place, that's still to be seen. |

Group C Finals
MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Now is the time to say goodbye to the Host Club. They have done well and I salute them. But, they have no chance against MITHRIL Group D Finals Children of Béfort, Fantastic Children vs. Debris Section, Planetes Both are strong contenders but I'm going to go with The Children. I think that they have that much more of an edge. |

Voting for: Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Reasons: I'm not 100% certain about this vote but since I did vote for the Sailor Scouts over MITHRIL last time and I haven't actually seen much of FMP, I'm going to vote this way, at least for now. I don't really expect them to win this round but I think they deserve to get a few votes at least. Group D Finals Voting for: Debris Section, Planetes Reasons: Continuing with my not voting for the Children any more because I don't consider them quite the level of team that the other contenders are. |

C Final: Mithril
Haven't been following group C much, but let's go based on the clips....Mithril, I like OHSHC's wacky comedy aspects more, but in terms of efficiency and team work, Mithril's just came off as more "real" to me. D Final: Debris Section Ooooh, another tough decision. Well I for one wasn't actually expecting Debris Section to beat the Dai-Gurren Brigade of all teams, but the Children and Half Section are quite similar in some ways, they've all got a family bond thing going on and team members routinely stick out their necks for both each other and people who are *ahem* not quite as deserving. The problem with the Children is that one of those "not quite deserving" characters ends up being one of their own teammates later on who is just fed up with the fact that they've been doing this for damn near 500 years. Now, Ai does a personal heroics thing, but that contributed to her running in the last tourney and I'm not sure it should help the group now as it was a personal thing. But even when one member of the Children of Befort turns sour, everyone else still does their best to try to bring him back and save him spoiler[ultimately failing because he dies because he wants to return to Greecia so bad] but and they do actually let Palza go at the beginning of the series when he really can't take anymore of it, which is an impressive tough love type decision. But the problem is that they still have to deal with a betrayal, maybe Debris Section doesn't have this problem as much because of the nature of the show and their job, but it's making it incredibly difficult to decide between the two because I do kinda like how the Children dealt with it. So, we're going to do a good ol' fashion coin flip because I truly feel either team could deserve to go on to the finals. Heads, Children, tails, Debris Section... I vote for Debris Section, which is probably a good thing because that aforementioned Children of Befort problem would just bite them in the finals. |

Group C Final: MITHRIL (Full Metal Panic)
Much larger scale organization and efficient teamwork than the Ouran Host Club. I still think the Host Club's nothing special at this point beyond being a regular school club. Group D Final: Debris Section (Planetes) I've been able to see some episodes of Fantastic Children since seeing this tourney. I can't really say I'm impressed with the Befort Children with what I've seen thus far as their attempts at holding their numbers have been out of luck with spoiler[Palza and Mel no longer being in their numbers after the first episode] making me question the team's trust in one another. So I guess I'm left with no choice but to go with the Debris Section based on what I've heard of the team. |

Ah, finally some teams/organisations I actually know. Heck, I might even vote this round (though not now, I haven't watched the clips yet 'cause my Internet is currently slow).
For MITHRIL, I am curious; like Team Rocket, are we talking about the key team, or the entire organisation? Because MITHRIL as a team (Sousuke, Tessa, Kurz and Melissa) work together very very well. And yet, MITHRIL as an organisation is crap. We see hardly any of it - a big negative at this point in the tournament - and their treatment of Sousuke in The Second Raid is fatal. So yeah, completely different outcomes depending on how you define "MITHRIL". Sort of reminds me about statistics in that regard . . . The second matchup is less ambiguous. Though I'm not voting right now, to me the answer is clear-cut. I just finished Fantastic Children five days ago (not a bad Anime, by the way), and though the Children of Béfort are good, they are by no means great. They are very goal-orientated by and large, which is good. But they never click as a team, not even in a business-like way such as we see with Section 9. They come across more like a collection of individuals who happen to share the same goal than a unified team with a single team identity. I haven't been following the tournament closely so maybe they had an easy run up to now, but that definitely needs to stop. Now. |

MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Voting for : Mithril I had to think long and hard about this it's true that there is some internal strife in Mithril but frankly the same can be said of OHSHC. I think Mithril comes of better due to their highly co ordinated teamwork and sense of team loyalty. Whearas OHSHC suffers from some serious personality conflict's and generally it's teamwork can be described as "headless chicken with it's neck stuffed full of cash" style. Group D Finals Children of Béfort, Fantastic Children vs. Debris Section, Planetes Voting for Debis Section I liked the realism of Debris Section's team. Other than that it was a close call with C.O.B falling behind just a little short for a few weak bonds and a betrayal. |

Group D Finals Children of Béfort, Fantastic Children vs. Debris Section, Planetes Hmm, tough choice. For group loyalty I will say Debris Section. |

Mein Gott! This is one difficult choice for me. Do I vote for the sophisticates unerringly pursuing that great goal of pleasing the fairer sex with their charms, wits, and good looks, or do I go with the efficient - and quite entertaining, I must add - team sporting the sublime Chidori as mascot? On the one hand, I have my compadres in Ouran, and yet, I cannot dismiss Goddess Chidori's light of beauty and intellect, a poisonous allure! I am torn asunder! In the end, I am a man, and as men do, they fail their brothers in pursuit of their opposite. I vote for MITHRIL with manly tears, the cunning bastards. Group D Finals: Debris Section Here at least, I have no difficulty voting for DS since I have no knowledge of the Children. |

This seems like a fun game. I guess I will join in on the fun. Will my vote(s) count this far into the bracket?
Group C Finals MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club This is an easy choice for me. The ARX-7 Arbalest, false axis repulsive field generator systems or spoiler[Lambda Drivers], and Armored Mobile Master-Slave Systems (AS/Arm Slave) win by a landslide. I vote for MITHRIL. Group D Finals Children of Béfort, Fantastic Children vs. Debris Section, Planetes I have only seen one of the series here so one side is at a disadvantage. Well, actually reading all of Planetes is more like it. Due to Fee Carmichael's bad smoking habit, she wins her team my vote. I vote for Debris Section. |

MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic franchise vs Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club vs Voting for: MITHRIL Because: I've been against the Host Club advancing for a couple of rounds, no reason to change that now. Group D-29 Children of Befort, Fantastic Children vs Debris Section, Planetes Voting for: Debris Section Because: I haven't seen Fantastic Children, so I'm coming from a slight bias, but on what the qualities I value in this tournament, effectiveness, coordination, and defined roles, Debris Section has the edge, and they've got a good dynamic in the relationships of its members as well. |

MITHRIL as an organization as a whole is a fairly weak team with a few key members that work well together. dtm42 highlighted this point very nicely in his post in more detail. Voting for OHSCHC Group D Finals Children of Béfort, Fantastic Children vs. Debris Section, Planetes Still a little shocked that both of these teams are still here, but the Debris Section doesn't have near the flaws as the Children of Befort has, and they have some of the most deeply developed characters around. The fact that the series doesn't focus on this group the entire series and some voluntary fragmentation issues may prevent this team from going much further, but they are still solid. MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club The C/D wing of this tournament is notably weaker than the A/B wing, so this is almost pointless... still, a choice should be made. Because I think they deserve better than they have gotten, I will back OHSHC over the equally deserving MITHRIL. Group D Finals Children of Béfort, Fantastic Children vs. Debris Section, Planetes Neither of these teams should have gotten this far -- but the luck of the draw would have it so. That being the case, I choose to back the Children, largely on the basis of my earlier remarks against the Débris Section (I simply don't feel the DS are cohesive enough). - abunai |
