Group A-29
Section 9, Ghost in the Shell franchise vs. Paper Sisters, R.O.D. TV Voting for: Section 9. They're definitely one of the strongest organizations left and I believe their levels of teamwork and efficiency are among the highest. This wouldn't be enough for me, however, if there wasn't considerable internal unity and even occasional displays of genuine care between several of the individual members in order to show that simply working together isn't always everything in and of itself. The Paper Sisters are close and deserved to get this far but I find it difficult to argue that they are somehow superior to Section 9 in most of these aspects. Group A-39 NERV, Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Knight Sabers, Bubblegum Crisis franchise vs. Game Club, When They Cry/Higurashi no Naku Koroni franchise Voting for: Game Club. I believe most of the arguments both for and against the Game Club and the Knight Sabers that were made during the previous round still apply, which means my own choice and the comments supporting it remain essentially the same. This time around a new element has been added to the mix, NERV, which merits at least some careful consideration. I would say that the shady nature of the organization doesn't detract from its ability to accomplish numerous tactical goals, again and again, so that's not a big deal. Yet we do get to see at least one direct betrayal and, including but not limited to the events of the EoE movie, cases where several members of the organization either failed to fulfill their responsibilities or outright subverted them with unfortunate and tragic results. This wasn't because of some external factor or mitigating circumstances, at least not primarily, but the result of their own decisions and actions. There is certainly enough character development, both before and (in a way) after these things happen, leading to some improvements in terms of trust and cooperation, but the question is...how much of it was actually beneficial to the organization as a whole (and even its own existence) by the end of the story? A limited amount, because there were also several counter-productive developments. |

Round 4 Group A is now closed.
Official results can be found here. Out of 21 votes, Section 9 dominated as expected. Also as expected, the winner of A-30 did not manage a majority; Game Club won out with 10 votes as adding NERV into the mix seemed to hurt the Knight Sabers more. Considering that a Final Four position is at stake when these two winners meet, I put out this challenge to GC's core of devoted supporters: recommend a specific clip from the second season which shows this team at its very best. The first two clips have been from the first season, which really don't show the group at anywhere near the maximum potential supporters claim they show in the late stages of the series. Some of you have steadfastly asserted that this is a Finals-caliber team, so now I'm calling you out on it. Show me some video proof. (I don't feel this kind of call-out is necessary for Section 9 because ccdx could probably pull a dozen or more different clips from the GITS franchise to back up Section 9's case.) |

Round 4 Group B is now closed.
ccdx has put together a nice new set of video clips for these contenders, so use and appreciate them! Last time only one of the four matches were even close, but the competition has stepped up a notch. No posers left here! Group B-29 Straw Hat Pirates, One Piece vs. Parakiss Label, Paradise Kiss Winner: Straw Hat Pirates Total: 15-1 Group B-30 State Section 3 (aka Pumpkin Scissors), Pumpkin Scissors vs. Gekkostate, Eureka 7 Winner: Gekkostate Total: 10-6 Last edited by Key on Tue Dec 15, 2009 12:12 am; edited 1 time in total |

This round is a toughie.
Group B-29 Straw Hat Pirates, One Piece vs. Parakiss Label, Paradise Kiss Knowing very little about either competitor, I'll have to go with the Straw Hat Pirates as much as I'm voting against Parakiss Label. Someone can probably convince me to change here, but I think that the Pirates' ongoing struggles alongside each other are more trying and ultimately team-building than the issues the Parakiss Label face. (If that seems a little vague a response, well... too bad :\) Group B-30 State Section 3 (aka Pumpkin Scissors), Pumpkin Scissors vs. Gekkostate, Eureka 7 Pumpkin Scissors still gets my vote here. The protagonist of Eureka Seven is quite an unwilling member for the majority of the series and their leader is headstrong and seemingly unwilliing to take advice from any of the other members of the team. Their work together often heavily relies on the strength of one or two members and I just don't think they are as cohesive. See my arguments in the previous round as to why I think Pumpkin Scissors should take this bracket - I'll add more and elaborate if it looks like they're in danger, but I don't want to redundantly reiterate points when I probably want to save my strength to argue it out next round. I hate arguing strongly for a team in one round then almost starting at square one in the next. |

Match B-29: Straw Hat Pirates (One Piece)
More better chemistry and the team's willing to put their lives on the line to help one another. Parakiss leader George's manipulative personality does make him a bit tough to trust. Match B-30: Pumpkin Scissors (Pumpkin Scissors) Skylark's arguments against the Gekko Seven crew have me going for Pumpkin Scissors. |

Straw Hat Pirates, One Piece vs. Parakiss Label, Paradise Kiss No contest. For evidence of the Straw Hat Pirates' undying devotion to each other, look no further than the Drum Island Arc, where spoiler[Luffy climbs an entire snow mountain just for Nami and Sanji, on the way battling mutant rabbits and the evil king Wapol and his minions along the way. Especially toward the very end, when he climbs vertically up the Drum Rockies themselves, he's developed pneumonia, his hands are about to be torn off and are covered in blood, and he can hardly even move, but he doesn't give up and his sheer determination saves the lives of both his crewmates.] Group B-30 State Section 3 (aka Pumpkin Scissors), Pumpkin Scissors vs. Gekkostate, Eureka 7 I'm surprised either of them made it this far, but my vote goes to Pumpkin Scissors. Gekkostate really isn't much of a team, especially as they get more and more toward the end. |

Straw Hat Pirates, One Piece vs. Parakiss Label, Paradise Kiss I am afraid I will have to vote against Straw Hat Pirates on general principles. I dislike the gung ho "I just met you and did something nice now i am your best friend" teams that populate shounen Anime. So my vote goes to Paradise Kiss Group B-30 State Section 3 (aka Pumpkin Scissors), Pumpkin Scissors vs. Gekkostate, Eureka 7 My vote goes for Gekkostate because despite numerous inter team squabbles they still managed to pull together in the end. And that gives Eureka7's team the evolution it needs to really shine as a plot device. Teams that start and end strong seem shallow for some reason. |

Match B-29: Straw Hat Pirates (One Piece)
Reason: Easy choice. Few shows have so many examples of close-knit teamwork and friendship. These themes are so strong that sometimes it borders on being grating. Despite this, you have to admit that teamwork, friendship, and loyalty are critically important values to this team. Match B-30: Gekkostate (Eureka 7) Reason:While it is true that a few members of this team are a tad immature in their personal relationships, and initially the main character is bit hesitant about his team, Gekkostate earns top marks in other areas such as growth, development, team chemistry, and coordinated teamwork. While they may tease other jokingly from time to time, when something needs to get done it is completed with the utmost precision due perfectly coordinated teamwork and a surprising level of synergy. The Pumpkin Scissors may be the more likable team of the two, but in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and well-executed team work, Gekkostate still has the Pumpkin Scissors beat even if Gekkostate's members lack a certain level of maturity. |

Mini-game results.
Olliff remains well ahead of everyone else with 150 points, although still hasn't quite clinched a prize yet. Most participants scored four points this round, but Aylinn and guet gained 8 points to take a 1 point lead above Key and Ggultra, respectively. Key, despite now being in fifth, has the best chance to pass Olliff for first place, being only 22 points behind. The competition for 2nd and 3rd is still quite alive, with 2nd and 5th places separated by only 5 points, and 3rd and 5th only 1 point apart. 6th through 10th place are only a little over 10 points back from 3rd place. |

Voting for: Straw Hat Pirates, One Piece Reasons: We've reached the point where there is a group who has a strong enough reputation meeting a group whom I know and love. And in the end, I think the Pirates just sound like they are a better team. Group B-30 Voting for: State Section 3 (aka Pumpkin Scissors), Pumpkin Scissors Reasons: Past arguments make these guys sound better. |

Straw Hat Pirates, One Piece vs. Parakiss Label, Paradise Kiss It's no contest, The Straw Hat Pirates are the winners here. Clothing designers need to say "Auf Wiedersehen," pack up their things and go back to Tim and Heidi. Group B-30 State Section 3 (aka Pumpkin Scissors), Pumpkin Scissors vs. Gekkostate, Eureka 7 Gah - Either one is okay here but from Previous arguments and from the video clip - Gekkostate |

Voting for: Straw Hat Pirates, One Piece Reasons: Don't think this one will be much of a match. While I am glad that the Parakiss Label made it as far as they did, they are simply outclassed by the more tightly bound team, the Straw Hat Pirates. Group B-30 Voting for: Gekkostate, Eureka 7 Reasons: While they do their have their minor flaws, Gekkostate shows much more coordination, growth, organization, and better overall teamwork. Sure, the main is reluctant at first, but he definitely contributes to the team and this is a growing and coming of age experience for him despite some of the hardships that he suffers through. Pumpkin Scissor's lack of top-notch organization combined with their few screw-ups here and there really doesn't compare favorably at all to the much more efficient, effective, and better coordinated Gekkostate. When things get serious, Gekkostate proves that are the more competent of the two despite the occasional teasing that does occur. |

Yeah, there must be some kind of mistake. It says I'm coming third, and I don't mean third-to-last, I mean actual third, equal with Aylinn.
How the heck did I end up there? Consider me flabbergasted. |

I'm flabbergasted by the fact I still have a shot at first and surviving this round. The past two tourneys I was involved in, I didn't survive beyond Round 3. Considering the current matches, I have a shot at surviving up to the Quarter-Finals. |
