Wow! I never thought Stage 3 and 4 would make it onto Region 1. This is great news. Stage 4 is one of my favorite seasons of any anime I've ever watched. The openings alone make me crazy. Funimation is going to redub every stage as well. FU Tokyopop for screwing up one of my favorite anime. I can give away my stupid Tokyopop sets with the horrible dubs and "tricked out" bullshit effects. I remember a while ago Funimation had a poll on their site asking which anime's they should get the rights to next. Initial D with a new dub was one of the options and I voted for it. So cool.

I'm with you Maxxjulie! Funimation seems to be living in their "Glory Days" again and not just with the uncut release of Dragonball. Two middle ones up to Tokyopop for shitting up Initial D's originallity!

They did that with Sailor Moon too, but no sign of it yet.

I admit, Initial D is not my favorite anime series, but it did deserve a better dub treatment. Glad to hear that Funimation has stepped up to the plate.

Bigger show, different studio and a creator that supposedly wants to block it may be a factor.

They're both roughly the same in length, and Toei seems to be warming up to opening their back catalogue more and more presently. I wouldn't be too surprised if they let her out again for a freshening up and a remix sometime in the near future.

Haven't seen the TokyoPop dub but congratulations to fans who want to see a newer dub.

I haven't yet seen the the TokyoPop English dubs of Initial D yet. I'm generally told that's a good thing. And apparently the wait will have been worth it. A new dub from Funi (and thus from folks who gave a darn about good voice acting and consistently deliver on that) is nothing but win...definitely gives me all the more reason to finally give a look-see to a franchise that has otherwise been off my radar.

As you may know, Tokyopop dubbed the show the way they did because they were hoping the show would be picked up a TV network.
That said, I hope FUNi doesn't do the polar opposite of that by incorporating "colorful four-letter words" into their translation (dub, and assuming, sub). It might be an option for the original manga since it's seinen (I know FUNi doesn't publish manga, but still), but the anime is shonen (even in Japan), and needs to be translated accordingly (and yes, I've been told about FUNi's "uncut" dub of One Piece, but that's the issue here).
IMHO, if they keep trying to make their shows "cool" by making them sound as "uncut" as possible, I think FUNi is eventually going to lose support from both fans and other viewers in the long run. We know it's going to be uncut; they don't need to shove it down our throats.
In any case, I may or may not buy this show; I haven't decided yet.
