Done a presentation and/or paper for school, and did it on the topic of anime? Last year I did one on fansubs and how to support the industry (and I think I got somewhere between 98-100 for my grade, so that was a good move). I've written about some of my favorite anime in my class journals.
Right now I'm doing a paper on how the fantasy elements of Romeo X Juliet cause a change in the plot (because the fantasy elements, in a way, can give the writers and director free reign as to how to play out the story), which causes a shift in Juliet's character. So yeah, anyone ever do something like this? Share your stories here. |

Yeah, back in high school I did a big presentation on "Japanese Culture in Japanese Animation" for my Humanities course. It turned out fairly well, but it was mostly just the same surface-scratching you see in projects about anime.

I helped a friend research a project on Clamp for Japanese class once... and by 'help' I mean I ended up doing all the actual research. *minor grumble* She didn't even really read it, she ad-libbed her whole presention and finished by playing the opening of a Magic Knight Rayearth video. Which, by the way, was my video.
![]() I never did anything on anime personally, but I did do a 'history of videogames' for a final project once. That was fun, and it gave me a good excuse to hit thrift stores looking for retro gaming stuff. |

In my freshman year of college I wrote a 10pg paper on either the influence of anime on the american film industry or the rising popularity of it. I don't remember now because my freshmen year was all the way back in 2001-2002.

For my high school english paper I wrote a 9 page on the various facets of Shakespeare that appear in modern Media and about 3 or 4 pages were on anime and animation in general.

This topic brings me back to better times. I also did a ten page report in college that covered anime's growing influence and/or popularity in the early part of this decade. The highlights included mentioning Akira and Ghost in the Shell, as well as observing how Sailor Moon came Stateside at "the right time," during the "Girl Power" era of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Xena. I used the book Samurai From Outer Space by Antonia Levi extensively for this report, among other sources...BTW it's a great read even if you're not doing research.
Congratulations. But it begs the question...had you not gotten full credit or a high enough grade, would you have tried the Lelouch stare on your English teacher to convince him/her otherwise? (I had to ask... ![]() |

I did 3 kinds of paper on anime- the relations & differences of Japanese animation and American cartoons, the history & timeline of Japanese animation, and the Anime's relation to cinema. These papers were made during in my high school year, and each of them are between 10 to 15 pages in MLA format.
I also founded the anime club in my high school in the US, I would like to call it as a project because it took 4 months, step-by-step, in finalizing before the school board approves. It was a difficult task because the area that I lived in had very little exposure or influences in anime. In my 'college years' in the university, I did two different posters for a play based on the anime, "NOIR." The poster designs are of a play, therefore the design had no illustrations of sorts or that ties into the animation; only elements of the story. The professor approved of it because no one had ever done anything like that before in her teaching career. I also made a book with a chosen story from the Grimm's Fairy Tale, which is "Clever Gretel." As an art student (Communication Design) made the book from scratch, hard bound, with a cover. This project was intense as the book was composed of artist's original artworks, excluding the cover (which was influenced by the OST of "Eureka Seven"). A lot of my anime influences were poured into the project, and I was pleased to hear, and didn't realized it until my friend told me, that I was the only one accepted to used such illustrations influenced by anime. These are a few that I have done with projects related to anime. |

First of all, thank you. ![]() Second, probably not since I would have an "A" anyway, plus I'd be far too embarassed to copy Lelouch in front of anyone(except for my school's anime club, and then only if we're playing charades). |

Well, I didn't do one on "anime" per say, but manga, actually. In College, I did a paper comparing, contrasting, and analyzing Leiji Matsumoto's Harlock Saga manga series and Wagner's Ring Cycle. Somehow, it made it into the school's literary magazine and got me both a free t-shirt and excused from the Reading/Writing part of the CLAST Exam. :p

I’ll start off by saying I think it's stupid to do a major project on anime because it's just not acceptable and many people still call anime cartoons. Just saying, with education, I would just stick with the norm. Write your paper about something legit like history, politics, economics, or something. Yeah it's boring, but better safe than sorry. Plus, when u get in college or you are in ur junior year of high school you can’t do a paper/project on a "cartoon." Common sense. Even sounds stupid. Senior year diff though. Senior slump.
Anyway, I did an art project where I had to draw people. I decided to do anime. Yeah lol as it turns out, well I already knew, but in the art world over here (Europe/NorthAmerica), simply put, they considered Japanese animation, manga, to be complete utter garbage. Not trying to offend anyone, but yeah that’s the way it is. Too lazy to go into detail, but yeah that was the problem really. When compared to paintings, oil paintings, and 3D figures, animation has no detail whatsoever. In fact the only manga/anime that comes to mind when I think of detail is Blade of the Immortal and Spirited Away. |

Actually, in my junior year at high school, I took Jewelry and Enameling as an elective art class and did a cloisonne tile whose image was a bust of Char Aznable taken from Kazuhisa Kondo's Mobile Suit Gundam manga.
It received an A for the level of challenge undertaken as well as the accuracy to the original image. It's all about the context with which you use anime. |

The Japanese culture and art can be pushed more than 'laziness for great detail.' If "Blade of the Immortal" and Miyazaki animations are what you consider a high detailed art, then please think that over because that is so untrue; maybe much higher in detail than some animations like, "Hello Kitty." You have not yet found that animations like "Steamboy" or Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" to be in a higher detailed animation? or artists like Range Murata who is capable to do illustrations in detail? Then, you have been missing out. When compared to paintings, animations, and sculpture- there are artists that are capable to do so with any means.
Although, just to be considerate of others, some people aspire to do things greater or do other things other than what's found in major museums in the US. Even though, it is tough to find such talent that can be accepted in the US/Europe; however, inspiration is not a crime in art. If you say, "Japanese animation, manga, to be complete utter garbage," then you as a fellow art enthusiast, artist, or critique should bang your head to the nearest wall because you should know by now or noticed that there are designers, developers, comic book artists, and animators that are looking at the Japanese style. For ages, artists (not all) have looked into Japanese art, inspired by it, and became one of the famous artists in history. Not to mention Van Gogh even tried to mimic a Japanese artist's painting. So why stop right now? If some people are capable enough to do a good job in what they do and could pursue what they want to do, then the sky is the limit. So, who are you to speak for all the artists with that kind of statement, when you speak of what you do not know. Maybe you have some knowledge since you went to college, but when you put-down people make sure you know what the $@#k you are talking about. |

Wow. lol a flamer didn't know this was allowed. Anyway I simply stated that animation is not acceptable in America. You even agreed moron. Quoting you know retard: "Even though, it is tough to find such talent that can be accepted in the US/Europe…" So if you are agreeing with me what the hell are trying to say ![]() Also I never said I went to college. My god you can’t read. You probably failed the English section on the SAT’s lol. Where in my post did I state the word inspiration. Yeah I can disregard what you said about that because what you wrote really isn’t directly related to what I said. I’ll bold so you can see. Directly. Key word. Oh yeah future. If you go around well I guess I'll talk in a language you can understand. You can't start beef with people for no apparent reason or because of a misunderstanding. Huge one on your part. Yeah you’ll get fu-cked up a lot. lol Inspiration means creativity. I never said animation was not creative. Furthermore if you want to argue intelligently with someone learn your straw mans, poisoning the well etc. Don’t just write something randomly. You’ll look like and idiot. |
