I normally wouldn't post a new topic about something like this, but I can't seem to find the answer on my own. There are two box sets for Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad (awesome series, by the way). There is the Viridian Collection (the more recent one) and the Uncut Box Set. Does anyone know what the difference is between them? I assume the Viridian is a slim pack, but I'm trying to find out if there is any difference in content before I buy. If anyone out there can tell me the answer, I would appreciate it.

Did a quick search and it turns out that the Viridian Collection is stripped of most of the extras that were on the original box set- which totally sucks for me 'cause I was planning on getting the VC in near future. >.>

You can see the extras that are on the original box set here:

Thanks for the info. I also saw the product description for both of the box sets on the right stuf website, but I wanted to see if the actual products varied, or if it was just the descriptions as entered on the website. I figure I'll probably get the original set, since it's cheaper anyway. I don't want to miss out on any extra features on this one.

Actually the other big thing about the Viridian Collection releases (there are many of them) is that they're supposed to be using more environmentally-friendly packaging.

Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info, Key. Can you also corroborate what braves was saying about the extras being stripped from the Viridian Collection?

I hate this "let's be Planeteers too!" BS that product manufacturers are trying to force now. If it's recycled this or eco-friendly that, I'd hope it's dirt cheap. When I buy physical things I want to last, I'd prefer they be sturdy, even if it comes at a cost to the world. Yeah it's selfish, but I don't like the idea of paying the same price for something that's going to biodegrade on my shelf. I saw the eco-friendly case to Slumdog Millionare, with a bunch of plastic removed in the shape of the Three R's arrows. If I were to buy DVD cases with stuff like that, I'd go out and buy a blank case pack and replace all the DVDs and slips. Try doing this crap to more stuff that needs it, like food products and other stuff you routinely throw out. This is just a cheap way to save money at the expense of the consumer and I don't like it.

You can still get the original collection. Btw, I just got the original Beck boxed set in, and it's 3 dual-disc thinpack cases in a flexible/flimsy cardboard box. Not as great as the original amp box, but for the price TRSI is asking for it, it's a perfect compromise of price, packaging, extras, and overall value.

I agree- it's not like it's a cereal box or something that will spend a few weeks tops in my home before tossing it out- it's a DVD I intend to keep for years- possibly decades. I expect the box to last that long!

I don't know if the newer Viridian collections do it, but the first ones were all-paper packaging with lil' 'pockets' you stuck the discs in. Those are the reason I have NEVER bought a Viridian set, and proably never will unless I see the thing first to make sure I'm getting something decent.

Not really, I have the original boxset and the extras aren't that fantastic, they have the uncut versions of the openings and endings and some commentaries. Nothing major.

I'm a HUGE fan of the series but I wouldn't feel like I was missing out if I got the VC collection.

I thought the full dub versions of the songs in the the Life on the Road extras were great, if a bit spoilerific videowise.

It is the only place to get a good listen to Slip Out.

I saw the Viridian box at ACEN yesterday and the back said it includes the dub song music videos. Didn't say anything about the 2 commentaries that were included on the single DVDs.

I own the singles with amp box.
