So I've been anxiously awaiting Trigger Heart Exelica's release and one of the biggest draws of THE for me is the Loli-Mechs and the new anime style cut scenes. While I wish THE would have an anime, I realize it's not very realistic it would happen any time soon (if ever).

I've seen some of Strike Witches but it really wasn't was I was looking for as it really didn't come off as anything more than fan service. I've used google and I've used this site to try to locate a series with no luck and was wondering if it's ever been done? |

Technically, Magic Knight Rayeart is a loli mecha anime. It's completely different from the series you mentioned, since it's more of a magical girl series, and the magical girls happen to pilot giant robots. There is more mecha in the second season than in the first, where most of the time is spent in fantasy adventure than piloting mecha. The designs are also go more for the fantasy rather than the sci-fi look.
Stellvia of the Universe is such a title where the male characters are reasonably numerous and are not simply a token character. Of course, this can as easily be considered an advantage as it can be considered a disadvantage. |

I haven't seen Sky Girls yet. I would like to but have a fear it will be the same as Strike Witches. (tell me I'm wrong, please?)
I absolutely loved the Rayearth OVAs. I've never seen the series for some reason though. Regardless if it has loli piloted mechs or not I'm glad you mentioned it because I'm definitely going to watch the TV series now. Thanks! |

Besides Strike Witches and Sky Girls, their's the just announced "Toei Robot Girls":
animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-03-18/toei-robot-girls-project-to-launch-this-year Promises to be significantly cash. You can see a photo of some of the designs if you follow the link. The original Gunbuster's pilots aren't quite loli, but they are young girls. It was specifically made to reference classic mecha animation of the 70's and 80's, but replace the heroes with heroines.. It probably influenced a lot of these later shows, and if you want something beyond fanservice, it's story is a truly artistic classic. |

I can't believe I'm the first to mention this one. Eureka Seven is a mecha series in which there is a loli pilot. It may not really focus on the fact that she's a loli type character... but it's there. It's actually a pretty good series if you have the time.

However it sounds like Gunbuster might just be what I've been trying to find. I most definitely want something more than fanservice. Mushi-Man, thank you as well, about to look up Eureka Seven right now. I guess it's safe to say that this genre of anime as of now really doesn't really exist beyond a few elements of a small list of shows? |

It's not really a genre. A genre would specify the structure and characteristics of the plot. This makes no definition of the plot itself, it's just two elements stuck together, "loli" and "mecha," that the plot might contain.
I mean, no matter how many shows actually contain both elements, "alien chef" shows or "military deer" would never be a genre. Oh well, in b4 semantics. |

I suppose the Gunslinger Girls could be described as loli-mechs, but they don't pilot giant robots - THANK GOD.

einhorn 303, you're right, loli-mech can't be a genre. the truth is that this thread was more of an attempt to ask for recommendations for shows that contain loli piloted mechs than anything else.
however forums rules don't allow recommendations and i couldn't find anything using search engines. i was just trying to bend the rules without getting my thread locked. for those that are unclear loli in short = underage animated girl. It can be stretched to some extremes for those with abnormal minds or it can just be another character in a series ie pino in ergo proxy, girls in gunslinger girl or Konota Izumi <------my favorite |

Ah, but I could counter by discussing the Japanese usage of the word mecha, which includes, for instance, the cyborg enhancements in Texhnolyze... but I'm better than that
