More horrible news about people. Thats really sad and it looks as if the park with the house was about to open. I hope they had some kind of night camera running somewhere that gets a picture of the perps.

You all are aware of the fact that Totoro is just a fictional character that cannot own a house? So what's the fuss all about?

It's not just the vandalism, but the lack of respect for a sanctuary for nature.

Well, according to the law and courts fictional characters have rights too. Totoro had that house since 1924. he's got a few museums, one of which was featured here on ANN about 2 weeks ago. He even has a museum in Northern California somewhere so it sounds like he's doing pretty good for a fictional character. I might have to play Miku Hatsune singing My Friend Totoro a number of times in a row to help him mourn the loss of his home. Once again like someone pointed out to me, Disney Land and Movies is created around fictional purposes and Walt Disney never got locked up for being crazy. The writer had tied history to the house and with the story long ago so its about the same as someone burning down Frotos home from Lord of the Rings. It was a Park, it was part of history even if the fictional character only existed on paper. I don't know what else to say. |

If your talking about the Cartoon Art Museum, it's just an exhibit, but a really neat one at that, it's in San Francisco. No matter whether it was a 'real' person, it still was 'somebody's home, also it was going to be a park, it's sad whenever there's a selfish act of vandalism. |

There's a house up the road from me called 'Neely mansion'- first house bulit in this area, been there since 1892. But no one lives there anymore, so let's tear it down and put in some apartments. The Winchester house in San Jose is supposedly the home of the ghosts of people shot by Winchester rifles. Since no one can prove ghosts exists, let's destroy it. It's not a matter of 'poor Totoro's homeless', it's a matter of an 80 year old landmark building, tied with a popular icon of pop culture, and in the process of being rennovated to a public space- being willfully destroyed by someone. I bet there's a lot of angry people in that area who loved that house, and were looking forward to the park's opening. Here's hoping they catch the jerk who did it. |
