"TAMAHOME!" and "MIAKA!" ad nauseam would've been more tolerable with a few giant robots blowing things up. Pretty much made "RICHARD!" and "ERIKA!" being 60% of the dialogue in Daimos OK. Samurai space pilot best-friend/sidekick with an afro and rose-colored glasses helped too.

I would agree, i have a bitch of a time keeping my school's anime club alive, because everyone and their cabbit can just go get fansubs. And so few people like the classics any more, so i gota show cutting edge stuff or they just bitch and moan. I also have to deal with endless numbers of people asking me to reshow their fav CN titles, which in my 5 years of running the school anime club has been non stop.
Peace, and thanks for answering my Macross Question a few weeks back.
-Gabe, anime club president, yes we exist but we're like rare birds just on the edge of dieing out.

Thanks, Zac, for all the fun times and oft-needed soul-crushing answers to naive questions. Good luck with the new column, I look forward to it. And good luck to Brian with this one. He's in for one hell of a surprise.
Also, should I be glad I don't know what anime those images are from?

I have always loved your unabashed honesty, Mr. Bertschy! (For a lot longer than I've been a user on this forum, in case you're wondering.)
In truth, it's probably helped with my forever ongoing self-improvement. Some of things you've said have made me step and realize, "Alright, I'm being a douchenozzle right now."
Also, sometimes I felt vindictive triumph; you've said the things I wish I could, but would be mobbed out of anime cons for saying so.
For the record, I haven't always agreed with you, but that comes with the whole "individual human being" territory, and the fact that you stood up for your opinion only made me respect you more.
Good luck with your next column, can't wait to see it.

If Brian or you both can't do it one week, can I? Oooh, or get Casey to do it. She'll murder folks.
Anime fans certainly have changed. They've become increasingly selfish over the years. Back in the day, we never gave a second thought to a mediocre dub or a long wait for a dual-audio version of our favorite shows. We dealt. We waited. We bought individual volumes. If it took us a year to find all of Cowboy Bebop, we didn't gripe too loudly. We didn't accuse the anime licensors of hating the audience. We understood. We were happy just to get anime over here. I know I did, at least. Now, everybody wants everything fast and free, without a second thought towards the people in the industry.
Anyway, that's a hilarious kiss-off. I can't wait for some people to be offended.

Looking forward to seeing what new article you do Zac. I've enjoyed reading answerman for a year or two now. Sometimes I skipped back when you eluded to previous ones.
And to anyone else...what anime are those characters from?

sad stuff... at least we can have Mr. Click pick up the reigns, as I always enjoyed his perspectives. I was disappointed when The Click ended, which I read even though I don't watch anime on tv. Anyway, thanks for the good reads, Zac.
Also, enjoy the boxed wine. mmm. wine.

As someone who was a studio rep from 2001-2003, I think I would refer to this as "revisionist history." Or at least embellished nostalgia.
Those pics are from Fushigi Yuugi, btw. God, am I really that old that so many don't recognize this show?
