Gurren Lagann= Tons of awesomeness! I am continually amazed by this show. That was some pretty entertaining stuff last night. I'm eagerly awaiting more.

From what I've read of the schedule, there are two more weeks of episodes. Episodes 23 and 24 will air next week while the final three episodes will air the following week.
Still, 21 and 22 were fun and crazy episodes to check out. Even with the timeskip, I'm still hooked on this series and glad to see that we were shown what Yoko was doing away from Team Gurren.

I was having Evangelion flashbacks when the massive Gurren Lagann was facing off against little Nia. Luckily for Nia, she got off luckier than the 5th Child did.
Also, Simon/Viral team-up was made of pure win!
Yeah, I'm grateful they're airing the final three all in one night. A friend of mind who has already seen the whole series says episode 26 would be a cruel place to stop and wait for a whole week.

Well, now I know what everyone meant when they said episode 1's opening scene would be different from the later version.
Casualties have begun. I sense we're in for a tough fight in the finale.
Oh yeah, and Simon punching Rossiu and quoting Kamina's "let's see you grit those teeth!" was EPIC.

I anxiously await next week.

I don't know, maybe it's because I was a bit distracted, but I didn't find episodes 23 or 24 as exciting as the ones leading up to it. >.>
Too many "weird" things happened. Like their new clothes, which look kind of stupid.

Just got through seeing 23 and 24. Pretty emotional there, especially toward the end of episode 24, but they were both great episodes. I can't wait for next week!

I'm getting the feeling that the second half of the series is in general over-compressed. Like, we just got done re-introducing all the old characters and we're set up for a kind of Battlestar Galactica style wandering the galaxy, searching for Nia while fighting off Anti-Spirals and so forth... but then we jump right to the final showdown. It feels like we took the first 6 episodes of a standard 26-episode anime series, skipped over the entire second act and all the character building and fleshing out of the show's premise, and jumped right to the final arc.
The show is packed full enough of self-aware super robot bombast that it wins anyway, but it's kind of a disappointment. In my opinion, it needed another 6-10 episodes in the middle.

That's not how I see it at all. They just took out the major attack against Earth, and now they're going after the Big Bad itself. Sure, they COULD wander around the galaxy for another 6 episodes, but there's no point to it. The characters are developed, bringing in anyone new now would be pointless, it's time for the final showdown, no sense in stalling. If you wanted a "search for the villain" arc, we already had that with hunting down the Spiral King. As for exploring the galaxy, well, it's MECHA. Exploration/adventure never seems to be a major theme of the genre (Eureka Seven is the only one I've seen that got sorta close). Sci-fi adventuring is more suited for general sci-fi standards like Outlaw Star and such.
Besides, the Anti-Spirals don't seem to have much personality, not much you can really explore with them. Compared to the Beastmen, who did have personalities and such, the Anti-Spirals seem to fall more into the "Giant Space Flea Out of Nowhere" plot device. Granted, the show has used that device well and eliminated the "out of nowhere" aspect, but letting it remain the threat for too long would hurt the show. Heroes are only as good as their villains (I think I quoted that right) after all.
Note: Josh, are you serious?! The new clothes rock!

Yeah, the Battlestar Galactica comparison really falls flat, at least in my opinion. There was never supposed to be a whole "wandering the galaxy to hunt down the Anti-Spirals" aspect of the plot to begin with. After the time-skip, we get the event that the Spiral King foretold seven years ago, and then the intervening episodes that show humanity (particularly Rossiu) pushed to the absolute brink...only for Simon to pull victory out of impossibility yet again. All that's really left to do after that is take the fight right to the enemy stronghold to save Earth once and for all. Mucking about with some sort of journey arc would be completely unnecessary and would destroy the madcap pacing that the series has established up to this point.
The key thing to note about Gurren-Lagann as a whole is that it's just about always rapidly growing in scale throughout its run (some might even say exponentially, as you'll see when we get to the finale). The first eight-episode arc took Team Gurren from two kids in a village to a battleship-equipped fighting force; after a brief layover, the second rapidly escalated from taking out generals to assaulting the enemy stronghold itself. We got that brief layover again with episodes 16 and 17, and now we've gone through stopping the very Moon from crashing into the Earth to jumping two exponential layers of robot size to taking on the enemy in an entire dimension of their own creation. Once you've turned the Moon into a giant freakin' robot, there's really nowhere else to go but straight for the enemy's jugular.

I really enjoyed the two newest episodes, and look forward to the grand finale. I am glad sci fi is airing the last 3 episodes back to back.
A while back, I looked up how it all ends, and I regret it now, I would of preferred not knowing, oh well. The new clothes are cool, imo, I loved Kittan's expression when he saw yoko...lol.
( although Flame Bikini > all ! )
