I remember BoA was immensely popular in Asia a few years ago. She's still popular, just not as insanely so as back then when her song seemed to be everywhere (in my memory at least). Given that, I'm surprised she didn't make her US debut earlier.

She's topped the Oricon with her last few albums but her presence in South Korea has seemed to almost disappear. And if her English is still anything like when she released English version of Amazing Kiss, no. 1 and Valenti I'm afraid she's being set up for an epic fail.

I was in Book Off yesterday and all of BoA's CDs are in the $3 clearance rack. That's a sure sign demand has all but faded.

well...... if someone finds her previous engrish songs and decides to "make fun" of her.... then yeah she's a goner.
this particular song.... make's her sound like asian britney..... the song is all about the beat. |

Awww. I had such a girl crush on her a few years ago. Maybe she'll have a minor resurgence. But yeah... not so much on that English song. From that clip, it still doesn't top the superturd of Utada's "I'm Japaneasy" lyrics, but it's not as catchy, either. |

o_o what was so hard in understanding what she said?
xD I didn't think it was even that bad.... She's one of the few artists I understand when it comes to the English versions of her songs without having to run off to find the lyrics. >_> Okay, how many of you actually listen to R&B/Pop? Because that's probably as close as the category of her music can be. |

I was a big fan of "Duvet", the theme from Serial Experiments Lain, so I bought "The Race of a Thousand Camels" so I could get the full version. I thought the rest of the CD was so weak, I didn't even put it on my iPod. (My wife liked it, though.)

Artists who are seriously trying to break into the US market do not do it through anime conventions.
Wrong BoA. |

Heh, we'll see what happens. I'm expecting her to fail like Hikaru Utada did, but with American pop you never know where the next big thing will come from. There's always a chance of someone introducing an 'Asian Invasion' similar to the Latin one Ricky Martin brought on.

Supposedly, she's been spending time in New York working on her English so it's possible that it'll be better than her previous English releases.
I really hope it is. |

Korean artists have always had better support in the US than Japanese artists. I'd say her chances are better than Utada's. |
