I was looking through the shelves at my local Barns and Nobel the other day and found this.

Is this maybe a new trend by American authors to break into a new market or is it just a one shot?

From the Dean Koontz offical website,

Quote:
From the infinite imagination of #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz comes the suspenseful graphic novel debut of a natural-born hero with a supernatural twist. Based on Dean's beloved character, Odd Thomas, IN ODD WE TRUST is a prequel to Dean's Odd Thomas novels - ODD THOMAS, FOREVER ODD, BROTHER ODD and ODD HOURS.

I have read it and it's quite good. The only problem I found was the way the cars were drawn, the rest of the artwork was, I think, very good.

EDIT 1 time for spelling.

I have noticed this trend. The comic / manga / graphic novel adaptation of popular books. Steven King has a couple of books over at Marvel. Marvel I think has the Anita Blake novels. I think that Pantheon High at TokyoPop was first a YA novel series. James Patterson's Maximum Ride is coming out from Yen Press.

Personally, I'm a completest, so I want to check out the original novels first, as much as I like comics. Also annoying in that I don't like watching movies based on novels nowadays if I haven't read the book first.

The artwork is good enough mostly, though Odd's head is sometimes too long and they characters tend to look stiff. The story is too simple, the villain is one-dimensional, and it doesn't add anything to the Odd Thomas series.

To those who've read the novels, I can't really recommend it.
