Would you like to place a small bet on that, Carl? Or better yet, a very large bet? Wink

I love this line from the review, "The school itself is located in some alternate universe where the sun always shines and garbage walks itself to the dumpsters. " Anime hyper

I seen I think about 6 episodes and what really bothers me is that the "guy" doesn't really act like one.

I've only watched the first episode of this so far, and already find myself squirming over the spectacularly generic structure and how much of a creepy Strawberry Panic! vibe this show gives me. Carl may get a little overly colorful, but his comments don't seem off the mark.

I do find it amusing how effeminate these guys who get stuck in these cross-gender situations were to begin with. (See also Kashimashi.) I would find a series like this much more entertaining if the guy was rather decidedly masculine to begin with and still had to cope with getting stuck in this situation.

Damn, something like this makes me appreciate the elegance of Simoun all the more.

As far as I know there are two series in said situations. Only available in US in manga, though.

Wow, can you feel the vitriol?

Also, like Furudanuki, I'm aware that Carl missed on the romantic-interest prediction. Shion's not really that interested. Also, Mariya doesn't put up much of a fight against her rival.

It's a slightly different situation since the cross-dresser is actually the person of authority, but "I my me strawberry eggs" has the male character act pretty "male" at times even when dressed as a female.

A more scathing review, I have not read. Laughing

While it's fun to read things like this once in a while, you gotta think, Carl's clearly not in any way, shape or form, this show's target audience. Why does he bother to review this at all? As a creative writing exercise?

I think all ANN reviewers find and review some imagined monthly quota of bad shows to completely lambaste and by doing so, make thinly veiled rants against certain popular trends in current anime. Not that I'm complaining! Razz

This is one of those light hearted series with only a touch of seriousness popping it's head in every now and then to add some variety.

$19.99 (or £9.80 for me) is a bargain for a couple of hours of amusement to brighten my day. Smile

If you're looking for something serious, you might want to go elsewhere though.

Well I liked it and plan to finish it. So there. I respect that you didn't like it, though it was a little harsh in your review.

To further elaborate, "Maidens Are Falling For Me" is a fair English translation of the full Japanese name of the series, of which "Otoboku" is just an abbreviation.

Carl's always so predictably negative, but it's interesting when it's a series actually pretty deserving of it. Problem is that Carl's cried "crap" so many times I'm not sure one would actually have reason to believe him when he's actually got some valid points. It's still more a Carl review then a review of Otoboku in the end.

i kept watching the show spoiler[in hopes that something non-generic or not absolutely boring might happen. that something never came. i was shocked that Manabi Straight could be beat at that. but this lacks what charm Manabi Straight had.]

it really is 'barely tolerable'.

What about the bonus episode? It was a pretty good cinderella parody.
