I might get this for the DVD with Maria-sama ga Miteru and To Heart, and for the "Maids, Maids, Maids!" =D...
I'm glad to see that (they seem to think anyway) the magazine's doing well

This is the first time I've seen a cover for this magazine... it really is a Newtype ripoff, isn't it

Funny, since I recall Darrly ( in fact, AWO in general ) not being particularly thrilled about FMA.

Still need to get the April and June issues. Haven't seen the June issue in stock, though, might have to wait for a cheap remaindered copy to show up.
Got a remaindered copy of the first issue a few months ago after I heard that Patrick Macias was the editor. Shannon Gaerrity and Jason Thompson doing reviews, too, so it was like a PULP crew re-union.

Never read Newtype USA, so I can't say for sure. Compared to the two 1997 issues of Newtype Japan I've read, though, not so much.

Are there some similarities to NewType? Sure. A rip-off? Hardly.
It has a DVD, like Newtype. And a manga preview, which Anime Insider does from time to time as well. And.... what else, exactly, does it have in common with Newtype? NewType USA had a lot of articles taken directly from the Japanese version, which Otaku USA obviously does not have. It covers some non-anime material in more depth than Newtype did and it has more reviews (reviews that are actually reviews, not puff pieces) than Newtype did. It's hardly a rip-off of Newtype USA.
