Round 3 Group B is now closed
Little low on the voting last time 
Also of note, unfortunately frentymon will be unable to host the tournament any longer due to his trip and ensuing college stint. As a result, I have asked Key if he would be so kind to host the tournament from now on and he has accepted the challenge. Unfortunately I think he is a little busy tonight so I am once again filling in as host... lots and lots of work for me

This group is going to be a toughie because I like many of the couples here but decisions must be made!
Group B-25 Solty & Roy Revant from Solty Rei [ Video Clip ] vs. Shinichi Chiaki & Megumi "Nodame" Noda from Nodame Cantabile [ Video Clip ] Jeez! Another anime that I'm going to have to go and get, Nodame Cantabile. So my vote is going to go to Shinichi & Megumi. Group B-26 Ayato Kamina & Haruka Shitow from Rahxephon [ Video Clip ] vs. Tomoyo Daidoji & Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura [ Video Clip ] Do I have to chose? Okay...fine! Ayato & Haruka because, ultimately, they are the stronger couple. Group B-27 Rakka & Reki from Haibane Renmei [ Video Clip ] vs. Lumiere & Eclair from Kiddy Grade [ Video Clip ] Again, another one that is difficult but my vote goes to Lumiere & Eclair because of the longevity of their friendship and partnership. As I have frequently mentioned I love these parent child type relationships. I also will have to say the last episode cemented this duo for me. Group B-26 Ayato Kamina & Haruka Shitow from Rahxephon [ Video Clip ] vs. Tomoyo Daidoji & Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura [ Video Clip ] Voting for Tomoyo and Sakura. This one is a tough one for me. I always love it when best friends have kids that become best friends. I'm a bit sad that the Last Exile kids didn't make it past the first round, so I'll vote for these two. Group B-27 Rakka & Reki from Haibane Renmei [ Video Clip ] vs. Lumiere & Eclair from Kiddy Grade [ Video Clip ] Voting for Rakka and Reki. This subtle relationship is one that many of us can relate with while the Kiddy Grade couple come across as a super hero duo. Both couples have strong points. Group B-28 Nanoka Kohinata & Koshiro Saeki from Koi Kaze [ Video Clip ] vs. Sousuke Sagara & Kaname Chidori from Full Metal Panic [ Video Clip ] Voting for Sagara and Kaname. I still think the Koi Kaze couple is creepy and a bit gross. I tend to be fairly liberal in my views, but spoiler[having sex] with your kid sister who is ten years younger than you is just going a bit too far. I hope this doesn't offend anyone here in this situation. |

I haven't seen either of these shows personally. While I don't think you meant this to be funny, it had the effect of making me laugh. Until I thought a second and went...wait, there can't be anyone here in this situation...riiight? Anyway, while I love the Koi Kaze pair, I do think Kaname and Sousuke are the stronger duo, which becomes much more apparent in TSR than prior, however, even in the first series, they do come to rely on each other, need each other and have an amazing chemistry, however you classify it. |

Solty & Roy Revant from Solty Rei vs. Shinichi Chiaki & Megumi "Nodame" Noda from Nodame Cantabile Voting for: Solty & Roy Revant from Solty Rei Reason: A strong pair, with a unique bond that forms over time, they are one of the biggest reasons why Solty Rei works as well as it does. The other pair appears interesting, and for a video about playing the piano it was entertaining enough, but it just wasn't enough to push me to vote against Solty/Roy Group B-26 Ayato Kamina & Haruka Shitow from Rahxephon vs. Tomoyo Daidoji & Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura Voting for:Ayato Kamina & Haruka Shitow from Rahxephon Reason: One of my two favorite pairs this bracket, If these two end up facing Sousuke/Kaname in a later round, I honestly have no idea how I would vote... RahXephon is one of my favorite series of all time, and these two are a big part of the reason. Voting for: Chiaki and Nodame Reasons: As I said, I would vote against Solty & Roy if they came up against a couple I felt was stronger, and they've done just that. Nodame and Chiaki just have such a wonderfully fascinating relationship, both romantically and just as friends/companions. They are at the core of what makes Nodame Cantabile such a wonderful series that I would recommend to pretty much anyone (though I'd have to recommend the live action more than the anime...but the relationship is still the same). Group B-26 Voting for: Ayato Kamina & Haruka Shitow Reasons: If Lydia votes against CCS, then they must be good 
Group B-27 Voting for: Lumiere & Eclair from Kiddy Grade Reasons: The guide and other arguments make them sound stronger. Group B-28 Voting for: Sousuke Sagara & Kaname Chidori Reasons: Again, they sound like the stronger duo (wow, there's not much left in this group that I've actually seen...only Nodame and CCS and even then I've only seen a few episodes of each). |

Possibility for change: Yes Group B-26 Ayato Kamina & Haruka Shitow from Rahxephon vs Tomoyo Daidoji & Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura Voting for: Ayato & Haruka Reason: Tomoyo and Sakura are a sweet couple of kids, but the trials and tribulations Ayato and Haruka go through demonstrate a stronger bond. Plus, spoilerific reasons. Possibility for change: No Group B-27 Rakka & Reki from Haibane Renmei vs. Lumiere & Eclair from Kiddy Grade Voting for: Rakka & Reki Reason: Partly because it's the one I've seen, but also because the tender affection between Rakka and Reki and the compassion for each other is so touching. Possibility for change: Slim Group B-28 Nanoka Kohinata & Koshiro Saeki from Koi Kaze vs Sousuke Sagara & Kaname Chidori from Full Metal Panic Voting for: Nanoka & Koshiro Reason: This is a close decision for me. That Koshiro keeps trying to pull back from inappropriate relationship, but Nanoka keeps following him while not completely understanding what's going on right away. It was really cute when, after she got a love letter, she took it to Koshiro for him to approve or reject. Possibility for change: Yes |

The clip is from the first episode and shows the beginning of the relationship between Reki and Rakka. You can watch it without fear of it spoiling anything. Though other clips might have been more powerful, I like this one because it shows the early stages of the pair's relationship where it is mostly Reki looking out for Rakka. Later on that dynamic changes around but that journey is the whole core of the story so it may not have been good from a spoiler standpoint to pick a more compelling scene from later in the series.
Not to worry. There's still plenty of time for my score to tank and head towards the bottom. I haven't been checking my bracket as we go, but as I recall I made some, um, interesting choices in later rounds that may or may not have been very realistic. Plus, my complete lack of knowledge of some of the pairs (Kurau/Christmas for example) probably won't help me as we go along. |

On the one hand, the Revants are a really strong duo. Not just an intimate relationship, but also one that is full of storytelling portent, important to the core background story of the anime itself. On the other hand, we have the original poster boy and poster girl for dysfunctional genius. Nodame lives her life like a walking cartoon, and Chiaki is a monumental pile of neuroses. Yet the two somehow fall into a weird relationship that seems natural, in a dreadfully unnatural way. Hard to make a choice between the two pairs. It comes down to a choice between a consummated storyline (Solty Rei) and one that is unconsummated, but with plenty of potential left (Nodame Cantabile). Of the two, I think Nodame and Chiaki present us with a story that (while incomplete) still has a lot of options open for further evolution of the characters without breaking the mould of the two. The competition, on the other hand, terminates with a closed ending, that leaves no more story to tell. As a result, I'll vote for the wacky artistic geniuses and their crazed love. My vote goes to Haruka and Ayato from RahXephon, because they complement each other in so many odd ways -- except for the mayonnaise. Group B-27 Rakka & Reki from Haibane Renmei [ Video Clip ] vs. Lumiere & Eclair from Kiddy Grade [ Video Clip ] Absolutely. No. Contest. Rakka and Reki, automatic win. Group B-28 Nanoka Kohinata & Koshiro Saeki from Koi Kaze [ Video Clip ] vs. Sousuke Sagara & Kaname Chidori from Full Metal Panic [ Video Clip ] Hmm. On the one hand, I'm crazy about Koi Kaze, but on the other hand, Nanoka and Koshiro do not function quite as well as a duo as the competition. FMP's lead characters are, quite simply, a more dynamic pair, with a much more varied interaction. There isn't quite the tension inherent in Koi Kaze -- but overall, Sgt. Sagara and Chidori are a much more well-rounded duo. My vote goes to them (albeit with a bleeding heart). - abunai |

Group B-26 Ayato Kamina & Haruka Shitow from Rahxephon vs. Tomoyo Daidoji & Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura Voting for:Ayato & Haruka Reason: No contest, really, based on the descriptions of others. Group B-27 Rakka & Reki from Haibane Renmei vs. Lumiere & Eclair from Kiddy Grade Voting for: Lumiere & Eclair Reason: Don't be fooled by the cute exterior, these girls have gone through a lot together and continue to do so. They have an almost troubling situation of being spoiler[continually reincarnated], and in the end they've really only got each other. In contrast, I have not seen Haibane Renmei however it seems that the focus of the show is the concept and not the characters themselves, leading me to vote for a very strong duo. Group B-28 Nanoka Kohinata & Koshiro Saeki from Koi Kaze vs. Sousuke Sagara & Kaname Chidori from Full Metal Panic Voting for: Sousuke & Kaname Reason: Hey, they're a power-couple for a reason; these two perfectly embody awkward teenage love and not knowing if or how to express feelings- and often that can lead to some pretty funny situations...they're much more than a comedy duo. |
