Listening to my Ali Project songs right now, including Catharsis, and I'm not sure abut head-banging, but I do prefer their 'darker' songs, though the others are nice too, such as the OP to Maria-sama ga Miteru. Yes, liking Ali Project is probably the height (or depth?) of my J-pop collection, which comes from anime songs or related recommendations. |

One more Ali Project lover here
My favorite songs: Boukoku Kakusei Catharsis Gesshouku Grand Guignol Coppelia no Hitsugi Narushisu Nowaaru Bianca When I started watching Rozen Maiden and heard opening first time I started downloading more of their music and now I mainly listen their songs (more precisely their and some songs from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni anime). Now, my problem is that I can't find any other band that has music as good as Ali Project (and similar style). Can someone recommend any? |

Yes, if you like Ali Project you will likely enjoy Yousei Teikoku (yes, this video is beyond awesome). Personally, I enjoy Yousei Tekoku's music slightly more than Ali Project (don't get me wrong, I sill love Ali Project as well). Their music kind of has more of a rock feel than Ali Project while still having the gothic/classical feel as well.
Just the anime? The games have great music as well. I can't wait for a single to come out for the the DS game's OP, Tsuisou no Despair by Ito Kanako. |

I guess I'm the only one in this thread who hates their style. It all started two years ago when I saw both Rozen Maiden TV series. Ali Project is probably one of the reasons I hate RM so much. My last exposure to them was with the first Code Geass ED. To put it short, Ali Project's music is extremely annoying IMHO.

I'm with you. My first exposure to them was with the first Code Geass ED, and I made it through about ten seconds before my ears screamed out in pain and forced me to mute the volume. Honestly, it sounded like a five-year-old was randomly hitting synth and vocal samples on a Casio. There's no sustained rhythm, no attempt at carrying a melody, no sense of song structure at all. Just harshly staccato noise. I had the displeasure of hearing clips of several of their other songs (through that massive 500 anime song medley that's floating around on YouTube), and save for one that actually sounded human, they were all that same discordant, grating, jarring mess. I have no idea how those of you who do like them can manage to actually sit through one of their songs; I'm not sure if I should give you my admiration or my pity. |

OK, OK, we got the message. However, that's not the way: you shouldn't disrespect other's tastes by saying things like that. Granted, AP's songs are a little techno+hard rock, but if you don't wanna listen to them, go listen to bubblegum J-pop and then tell us what it is you find better. And technically, all music is noise, man. |

Okay...so you've resurrected a three-week-old thread just to call me out on a post you took as a flame. Cute. In any case, I fail to see how I was "disrespecting" other people's tastes by saying that I greatly dislike the group's sound. Hell, the thread title itself says "love it or hate it;" I just so happen to fall into the latter camp. My comment wasn't meant as an insult; after hearing a few of their songs, I honestly have no concept of how that sound can be enjoyed by someone. Call it intellectual curiosity, if you will; if someone could give me a good analysis of why they like them, I'd utterly love to hear it.
And if you think Ali Project is "hard rock," methinks you need somewhat of a musical education, my friend. As a fan of actual classic rock and metal, I can tell you that every hard rock act I've heard of generally uses, y'know, actual physical instruments. And a major lol at trying to pin me as a J-pop fan; nothing could be further from the truth. (And wow, "music is all noise." What a shocking revelation. Last time I checked, though, all music isn't a discordant, jarring, anti-melodic mess.) |

Well, I was just trying to, how do you say, broaden your horizons, pal.
First of all, granted, you have the right to disagree with us. But I believe there is no reason for you to launch into a bloody diatribe about what you think about this 'discordant, jarring, anti-melodic sound'. A simple 'I hate them and their music' will do. Don't you think that we may have 'had the displeasure of hearing' songs you might like too. But that does not mean we insult you and fans like you for it. Secondly, who are you to pity us? Don't forget, we chose this music to be our own. Who are you to doubt our mental capacity or our taste in music? Thirdly, you have a very overblown sense of your own importance. I was putting down my views on your post (that's what we're supposed to be doing here, aren't we?) There's no need to insult me or to raise aspersions on my knowledge base. @Mods: Sorry if I'm off topic. |

First off, my horizons are doing just fine without any "broadening," as you put it. Thanks anyway.
I'm personally of the opinion that a simple "I hate this" opinion is one of the most irritating sentiments that one can express. It's completely mindless, and it leaves no room for further discussion; I feel like I'd be insulting the fanbase much more than I may have wound up doing by stating my opinion in that matter. As I re-iterated above, I didn't intend to come across as being insulting; when I chose the terms that I used, I was hoping that someone would call me out on them. I wanted someone to provide counterexamples, or at least a differing opinion, so that I could re-evaluate whether or not my initial impression of the musical group was a fair one. Unfortunately, I didn't get anything out of it other than an unlooked-for argument, so it's probably best if I just don't bother. This thread's probably headed for a swift lock as-is. (And for crying out loud, the "pity" comment was nothing more than a bit of tongue-in-cheek snark on my part. It's a joke, nothing more. We self-important Internet types like to indulge in such things on occasion. ) |

I didn't take any offense to Top Gun's comment. Just seemed like he was expressing his opinion that he didn't like them. Which doesn't surprise me, as I think a lot of people will dislike them, their music is different. I don't think I can provide any counterexamples though. Most of their music sounds similar, so if you don't like them, you don't like them. Although I've only bought a few of their newer albums, I haven't listened to much of their older music.

mm I'm from the ones who loves Ali project. They have a "unique" style.
Sometimes I understand the haters because some amine songs haves a lot of electronic sounds at the same times and It can be confusing. And about Arika's voice, her voice is not the typical Japanese girl high-pitched sweet voice. She has a great strong voice can sing low notes too and higher notes in other style more similar to opera or classical that typical Japanese idol for example. But I love this two facts. other things: I'm into a project: "Ali project international Fan page project" We are trying to create a fan page&forum about Ali project A page with all the news of the band and a forum for fans. And also we are searching for a Webmaster. Interested click here http://aliprojectfanpageproject.blogspot.com/ See you |

I like some of their stuff, however, the majority of it sounds like somebody's running their nails over a chalkboard.
