This sounds very intriguing. I'll have to inform my mother about this, she's a big fujoshi and is looking for new yaoi distributors now that the company who publishes Kizuna is having difficulties.

Hopefully if Tokyopop's BLU line gets cancelled (which I do not hope for, as I do like Junjou Romantica quite a bit), these people will be able to fill the void.

Is BLU is danger of being canceled? D:

I don't know; I just know Tokyopop is overhauling their manga lines right now so everything is up in the air about what's staying and what's going.

Blu makes money, it's safe.
I'm skeptical. Everyone and their mom makes their own yaoi manga company these days. It's like "in" or something. But not everyone follows through on their promises.

I hate to be skeptical too, but I'll believe it when I see it. At first I thought it might be a Japanese publisher opening a US branch, but it appears to be another small operation like DQ. But if they have a person with a good business head at the helm, they can make a go of it. I hope they do.

I'm such a huge yaoi fangirl, I know BLU manga might still do good just like yaoi press and june manga and other publishers too.

I'm excited. Hopefully this company can follow through with its plans.

I'm hoping for the best with this new-comer, as with Yen Press, there's always the chance that they'll land rather big-name titles right off the bat and get in good with some Japanese publishers.
I was wondering about JR: Can you tell me more about it, if you don't mind? I haven't had a chance to read it since there's no scans left online that I could see, and the bookstores all have them shrink-wrapped, which is fine, but I can't exactly see if I like it or not, y'know?

I'll PM you, since otherwise this will go off topic.

I'd think many of Blu's titles are fairly safe--at least Loveless considering sales numbers. Of course, it really looks as though, from the posts, they're still pushing the OEL stuff. I really can't see it as selling better, but it might be cheaper overall than buying the license, translating & then publishing the books. Though one wonders if it shouldn't just be treated as American comics, though the audience may not go for that format.
I just know I was bored to tears at last yr's SDCC with their pushing the animations off their website of all the OEL stuff they were animating, but they took forever to get it going.
Junjo is cute. Maybe a tad confusing because there are actually 3 or 4 stories going on. The main is award-winning novelist sorta somewhat has had a crush on a friend for awhile & his younger brother enters the picture. THe novelist would never make a move on his friend, but kid brother's another matter. Novelist writes hardcore BL for fun under an alias, only uses his & little bro's real names for all the action (& maybe he's used older bro's). It's cute to watch the uke get all flustered reading the smut. There are at least 2 other stories-Junjo Egoist & Junjo Terrorist. One's a collegue with a crush on the award winning author & the guy who is in love with the collegue.
It's coming out too slowly for me to remember names & all. I'm going to have to go back thru sometime soon & re-read the bunch with one of the new releases. It really cute, though.
I love Wild Adaptor, though. Minekura's stuff better be safe. I really hope they'll go for attrition & just finish stuff with a few more volumes to go. And I'll be really bummed if we lose GetBackers or SDK in the middle of the story. They'll make fewer enemies if they finish stuff, even if it means stretching the releases out more.
I really can't see the issue with bookstores. I gave up on them long ago because of the idiots reading the stuff in the aisles & the fact most bookstores really aren't set up do deal with a serial/comic book format. Most comic stores I've dealt with are unable to deal with manga although one would think they could understand the back issue situation better since they deal with clients who want X-Men 150. Maybe the issue is they get to charge an arm & 5 legs for old "collectable" American comics, but manga fans see the books more like regular books & thus an old volume should be cheaper. I swithced over to on-line for most all of my manga over 3 yrs ago. Cheaper, not drooled on, they seem to have less issues with not having a back-issue than Waldens did.

at the risk of being flamed, don't we have enough yaoi? I mean girls, seriously, he's not interested in you. You can have the same level of storytelling without all the BL right?

If there's a large enough market for it, they'll sell it. And there's a large amount of fujoshi in America who want their boys in pictures and making out.
What, you think we read yaoi for the story? (All right, some of it - i.e., Kizuna, Earthian, et cetera)

I dunno, don't we have enough live action lesbian porn? It's basically the same thing. Yaoi is just so there's not some annoying girl in the way of the bishies.
