Yen Plus, the newly announced manga magazine, from publisher Yen Press, is going to be published in July, with an assortment of GanGan titles. These titles include Soul Eater, Bamboo Blade, When They Cry, and more. Yen Press just recently has become a prominent member in the American market, with Zombie Loan and Spiral already released. I was wondering who would be purchasing the magazine and subsequent volumes of the manga inside, and if anybody had some other information on Yen Plus.

I think it's a bit early to have any more information, they only just announced the magazine's existence (I hadn't even heard that it had a name yet).
I think I'll probably check this out. I've heard a lot about some of the series in the magazine and it looks interesting enough. I judge after an issue or two about whether or not I feel like subscribing to it. |

Yeah, they've certainly stepped out of the "boutique-ish/small" publisher status in my mind, with their announcements at NYCC.
I'm already getting Shonen Jump, though that's a gift that I continually get renewed every year. While I do have some sort of interest in all of their Japanese titles, I don't plan on getting the magazine, though I will get the Higurashi manga in book-form when it's out next year. |

Normally, I'm not the type to buy anthologies like this because I would rather buy the individual volumes. However, Yen Plus might actually be worth checking out considering that I'm interested in all of the titles announced so far.
![]() Though I'll be able to make a more concrete decision once more information is released concerning the mag. |

With the titles announced, I'm not really inclined to pick it up. However, I do hope it will succeed with the people who have the tastes that it is aimed towards.

I really don't think I'll get the magazine (unless they get more titles I'm interested in) since I'm only looking forward to two of the titles: Soul Eater and Nabari No Ou. I'll most likely just buy the individual releases of those two series, but I might crack and get the mag if I can't wait long enough (but I think I can wait...I think).
What do you guys think? Will it succeed? I mean, so far they still seem like a smallish company to me, so I'm curious to see how this will go. They have titles that are popular, but to the otaku crowd. Nothing as mainstream as Jump titles. If the Soul Eater or Nabari anime air on TV then that would probably boost the magazine a bit. |

You can sign me up. I really don't know anything about these series but I'm getting tired of the sausage fest that is Shonen Jump and am thrilled to be finally able to see different kinds of series in magazine form.

Yes it is, and that's pretty much the reason I'm going to get it. But I'm kinda interested in Nabari no Ou and Soul Eater as well, and with those action series it's probably a good idea for me to follow them in a magazine, because I probably wouldn't care enough to pick them up as individual volumes. |

I'll be subscribing. I hope Yen Press can afford to lower the price of the magazine soon, though.

I'll be getting it for Higurashi and Soul Eater, I've been waiting on Higurashi since I first started the anime.

According to the above link (scroll down to the last article), the magazine itself is going to be $8.99 for each 460 page issue. That's the cost of an average graphic novel, and considering the only title in the mag I'm looking forward to is Soul Eater, I don't think it's worth the cost (unless it comes with color pages/ very special material for Soul Eater itself). |

... Except for the part where most ten-dollar graphic novels are WAY less than 460 pages ![]() But yeah, if you plan to only follow one series then it's not really worth it. As for me, I like to try a little bit of everything.
Are you planning to sign up for kendo classes? ![]() |

Thats a pretty nice price and since i've never read any yen press manga i'm really looking foward to it. I just love when they come out with manga magazines. And yen press looks like it has some good manga. Could anyone give me a link to some of there manga. Also yes i'm planning to take classes for kendo. ![]() |
