*Sigh* Again? When will these kids learn? They're giving anime fans a bad name.

........OK.
This is getting ridiculous.
Let's just not have any discussion about how kids should be raised nowadays or adult overreaction or whatever. The last two times this happened sparked enough debate, we don't need a repeat, yes?

I am beating my head against my desk...
Seriously! What does it take to get through these kids heads that making certain types of lists IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!
EDIT: Meant to say "DOES" not "DOESN"T"

Well, it may be possible that maybe these kids aren't paying attention to the reports here at ANN, and how much of an outcry there has been. I'm actually starting to become amused by these reports, since this is the third one this year that we have seen. I think that there is validity for this case, BTW. Listing the entire school staff and fellow students is not a very good idea, especially when they are listed in said notebook.

I find myself very curious as to whether this sort of thing has happened in Japan as well.

Last time I checked, you don't normally go to juvey, just because you write about people you don't like...

I would think if you wanted to write about people you don't like, you would keep a journal or something of why you don't like them, or what they did to you. Of course, there are flaws in that, because obviously people can write about what they would want to do to the people they don't like, such as questionable actions that gets somebody into trouble or hurt. In this case though, if you haven't forgotten, it was listed in a book called DEATHNOTE.

I don't get it. Are the authorities afraid it's going to work?
I can only suspect that real Death Notes exist based on this reaction, and I now fear for my life.

I wondered if the manga-ka thought this kind of thing might happen when they wrote it.

I know, but when would you list the entire staff of your school in a book?

I know it's happened in China and Belgium. Japan? No idea.

It's an interesting topic. Light is the main character of an enjoyable story, but is what he does evil or not? Either way, he is an anti-hero, and kids love to be root on and imitate people they admire. Maybe if the police did a little more research into the topic, they'd find out the notebook is just that, innocuous and these kids are just expressing normal teenage angst. Who didn't want to kill other people (if they could in a clandestine fashion) sometime when they were about that age?

i don't know it looks like they are still going to juenile court. They must do more than just write down names. Unless write down people's names in a note book is illegal now in U.S.
