Square Enix may have taken the top spot, but Nintendo took almost everything else.

To no one's surpirse Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake had the year's best debut week in Japan, though sadly it didn't manage to sold over a million copies on Switch alone, or even combined with the PS5 sales numbers, though I think it's more due to the fact that Square-Enix undershipped the amount of copies on Switch, which is something that has happened quite a few times with other of their RPGs on the console, and it seems they won't be able to restock the games until December
Regarding hardware sales, I thought the PS5 Pro could have stayed on the top for another week but no

a lot of us in Japan buy games digitally, its like a 1 to 3 ratio (physical being 3) so ya the game passed a million in sales, most people I know bought it digitally

The game looks great. Sucks it's 59.99 for my wallet in the future, but great nonetheless.

I am completely and utterly shocked that a Dragon Quest game (specifically a remake of the installment that took the franchise from "success" to "legend") not only topped the sales charts in Japan, but constituted 88% of the combined sales of the top 20 games.
And man, did you hear about that dog biting that man? Crazy, huh?

I'm waiting until a Steam sale myself. Don't really want to spend 60 dollars on a remaster of an NES game and unlike Nintendo's remasters this will actually go on sale at some point.
Speaking of which I heard the Switch version has performance issues which seems odd. I'm not sure what's so intense about the game.

Also chalk me down as waiting for a Steam sale, not that SE games tend to discount much. I don't think DQB2 has ever gone below $30 or so.

You'd be surprised (I know I was). Performance issues on Switch are present, but don't really affect the game much, as they're largely confined to framerate dips in towns (especially when first loading in). They really went above and beyond on the towns -- they're all incredibly detailed and full of assets.
IMO the biggest issue with the game is actually the combat speed. You can speed it, up, but only to a point: default speed is unbearably slow; 2x speed aligns it more closely with the pace of combat in prior iterations of DQ3; 3x speed is the max, and the most tolerable. Apparently there's already a mod to further speed things up on PC, so if you've the option, that's the one to go with.

I'm cool with $30 for a remaster. The SaGa Frontier one was 25 I think. Star Ocean 2 R was 40 but I think I got it on a discount for 30ish. Chrono Cross was 20 but they didn't add anything to that one. 30-40 would be a fair price for me.
PC is my platform of choice due to mods and fixes.

Ah, Switch and performance issues, something even Nintendo's in house devs can't even surpass. Yeah this is the type of game (and most non Nintendo games) I'd get for PC. Too bad it would never be on GOG, need that drm.
