The reviewer's comment about feeling split in two by the leads rings true for me as well. I am obsessed with my cat and love looking at maps and atlases so I identify heavily with our awkward, loveable couple.

The manga was a pleasant surprise when I discovered it and the anime is proving to be quite the treat, too.

This is a romance anime for socially awkward introverts who are comfortable with themselves and find someone else they're becoming surprisingly comfortable with.

While their relationship begins on the premise of a lie, we're already seeing them enjoying each others' company and becoming more and more invested in each other. Also, it's nice to have another Saori Hayami romance on Thursdays.

I love how they threw in The World God Only Knows references using characters whose seiyuu were actually in the show and worked in the manga volume covers in the OP.

Nao Toyama so often playing the loser in love triangles and now she's married to a dude and even has a girlfriend. All the while playing up her old blonde English archetype!

My wife and I literally screamed in delight when we found out the princess was gay, we weren't remotely expecting this from a cute but hetero romance series and it was such a nice find. Honestly enjoying watching these two slowly get together for real, it's been a good time.

It's sweet and funny that Takuya thinks Rika is the most serious and committed to maintaining this act...even though she's actually losing her mind because she's genuinely falling for him. Hard.

Kind of suspicious that the blackmailer would make Rika go with Takuya back home. Like, what benefit would there be in making Rika follow him? It's highly unlikely anything that happens there would get back to the office.

Rika dressing to impress her fake fiance's family.

Rika's love of maps is genuine, though you can't help but see that a lot of it was born from all the loneliness she felt from her mom being gone so much and projecting her desire to travel with her. She seems very self-sufficient and happily so, but on some level does she want someone in her life?

Grandma knows what's up! Rika is even helping out at the family farm like she's already part of the family!

My theory that I want to be true is the blackmailer is the boss, but she's doing it because she realises these two people who would be good together would not naturally get to know each other and fall in love without a bit of a push to put them in more social situations where they depend on each other

Ha, let's have this intense family discussion over your fake engagement while I'm helping you carry your fake fiance!"

Takuya's sisters and mom are totally convinced they're either already together and bound to hook up. They're treating Rika like part of the family already. Granted, with how smooth and natural they are as a pair, I don't blame them. Rika is slowly coming around to the idea of having a partner in Takuya.

Oh no, the childhood friend alert! And she's voiced by Fairouz Ai! Has Rika been an unkowing homewrecker this whole time? Or is she just looking for an excuse to give up on her feelings?

Ahh, just loving this show, it's such a vibe. It's my 3rd favorite show of the season after Dandadan and Blue Box. The family are already taking a liking to Rika and accepted her to their clan, lol. Especially grandma who placed their futons in the same room, lol.

I just love how Takuya and Rika's burgeoning romantix relationship and just how they are around each other feel very naturalistic and devoid of anime tropes.

Love their museum date too.

Uh oh, the childhood loosing heroine is here!

I think this episode was about showing the darker side of marriage and why communication between couples is key. It can't be a one-sided relationship where the wife (presumably) keeps giving and the husband barely gives back while being blissfully unaware of what his wife is going through. If you don't talk things through and express what you both want, rather than seemingly taking advantage and believing your in a "perfect relationship," it can lead to disaster.

Poor Hideo. Both of his parents kind of failed him.

spoiler[I think this is the first time they've mentioned in the anime that Kurokawa is married. I think in the manga she had mentioned dealing with her in-laws before Takuya and Rika's trip. Also I guess we're skipping the Komiya swimsuit scene.]

I never expected to see a Jouji Nakata character giving good relationship advice in a Hawaiian short and punch some sense into a man who reverted to a gorilla....but here we are.

Rika has had to grapple with her parents' divorce and having to clamp down on her feelings and what she really wanted so as to not be a bother to anyone...which also means she's going to take the first excuse she can get to avoid dealing with her feelings for Takuya and the possibility that there's something real between them. Which also makes it the perfect time for the girl she was jealous over, Nao, to show up in her life.

I'm 100% with the reviewer this ep started as disappointment but ended up being really good.

My worry is this is the 8th ep, so unless this is a 2-cour anime I feel like the ending is gonna seem rushed. I really wanted this to be a slow burn story, not a will-they-wont-they until they hurriedly do

I can relate to Gonda, because I was in a similar situation, except the genders are reversed. I was a single dad, and this girl I liked had to accept that I had a son from a previous marriage. Unlike Gonda, she immediately said yes, and we're celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary in a few weeks.

Takuya and Rika are still too caught up in themselves and too awkward to properly talk to each other address their feelings (and this has been going on for three episodes) but they keep seeing example of other relationships, marriages, and how people view marriage as they try to figure themselves and their feelings for each out.

Heavy drinking and an inability to properly respond to a confession is killer on the back.

I'm going to take Shinshi's blonde hair as him trying to look more attractive now that he's divorced and single.

I feel like I really underestimated Gonda as a character. Like, at first he comes off as a typical overly-enthusiastic guy desperate for a relationship, but we finally learn why he is that way and his motivations are really sympathetic and relatable. And he really grew and acted maturely in the second half, enough to where Takuya genuinely respected him.

You could tell from Kaori's expressions that she knew revealing her son was likely to end or complicated the relationship...probably from previous experience. A relationship isn't always just too people, sometimes there's weight from past relationships or even a child that needs to be considered, and that can be a lot to deal with going into the relationship.

I hope these two are able to make it work, just as I hope Takuya and Rika finally talk to each other properly.
