I'm willing to bet that this is okay. But I don't do okay, any more. Anyway, I'll check out the Preview Guide on this and any comments in this thread and if it shows signs of being somewhat special, I may jump on.
Premise reminds me a little of Uzamaid where the maid was a former JSDF pilot with a black eye patch who became a maid because she's a lolicon. Yep, that's a plot you'll only come across in AnimeWorld. Anyway, I bet this show will be better than that. Actually, looks like I just talked myself into checking this out. |

I have to admit that seeing Blood not partake in basically every meal/show that is one the table like a starved animal is something that needs getting used to.
As for the comparison with Uzamaid, the description makes the show sound a bit more serious with the whole former killing business and it probably also has some happy vibes with Yuki learning to feel so I am not writing it of yet. |

At first I thought this was going to be like a ninja pretending to be a maid to protect the hidden young master of a clan scenario. Then I saw a trailer that made me think it was going to be more like Spy Family - a blend of action and domestic comedy. But the latest trailer I saw made it look more like the emphasis is going to be on domestic comedy around what a terrible maid she is and the assassin resume is going to be more of a garnish. Whatever, all three scenarios looked good to me.

Indeed. However, I discovered another benefit of being more discriminating. I noticed that let's say I'm watching 10 shows I'm finding to be Good (7/10) and several shows that I'm more meh about but still watching. Eliminating the meh shows actually makes me enjoy the remaining 10 even more than I otherwise would. |

The first episode surprised me in several ways. The first way is the opening that is rather good and also rather creative (like a lot of other OPs this season). Secondly is the fact that the maid being a former assassin got out so quickly, it did not become a secret second identity. Finally there is how heartwarming the episode was. It is clear that miss maid has had a dark life and Yokaya has begun the proces of healing her. Also of note is the solid mix of serious with jokes.
The one thing that has me wondering is the brief dream bit of the mother walking away with a young girl in hand, I assume that is going to become important later on. |

Yah, it was my favorite OP of the season so far, and the anime itself was no slouch in the artistic rendering department. What is up with all of the beautifully drawn anime this season? If I find out that its because more studios are using AI, I’m going to officially be creeped out, especially since I’ve started watching Terminator Zero over on Netflix. And speaking of Terminators (how’s that for a natural transition?) I knew the assassin thing wasn’t going to play the main part of the plot in this anime from the trailer, but the job of an intro is to set the tone, and it looks like this is going to be an even sweeter anime than I expected. Which I’m okay with.
I’ve complained before that I’m not really a fan of anime where a male MC draws in beautiful, capable, popular women like sharks to chum based solely on the fact that he’s nice. I mean, don’t get me wrong, if a person can only have one virtue, kindness is maybe the best one (although one or two traits related to survival might be nice), but if kindness was enough to make someone popular and attractive, more people would demonstrate it in their day to day life. But I’m grudgingly okay with the dynamic here for a few reasons. (1) It looks like kindness is something that Yuki has very much been missing in her life though the circumstances creating this scenario must be so convoluted that I kind of hope they remain a mystery for a long, long time. This is more like a kind of a Violet Evergarden scenario with a scarred robot coming to life, or like a male to female version of the relationship between Nagomi and Ranko from Akiba Maid Wars than it is an annoying harem comedy. At least so far. (2) Most of the anime where this trope is annoying also confuse kindness with a bizarre combination of weakness and incompetence and arrogance, and Hitoyoshi has been okay. This isn’t like my anime pick of the season thus far, but I enjoyed it. |

Last week I compared the maid in this anime to Ranko from Akiba Maid Wars but the more I see of her, the more she reminds me of Ayanokoji from Classroom of the Elite. Y'know, emotionally shut down after being raised in an inhumane environment, trained to be a killer, speaking in a slow monotone. But instead of going from that world to some Darwinesque, ultra competitive social experiment for up and comers, she wound up with a guy who seems decent. Genuinely decent instead of the cringy, spastic/weakling/pervert typical of this kind of anime. To make another comparison, like the guy who La Femme Nikita becomes involved with if you ever saw the original movie.
Maybe not a very realistic premise, but I'm enjoying it anyhow. I was half expecting/dreading someone from the maid's old world to be on the doorstep when the doorbell rang at the end of the episode, but it looks like a different kind of hell is waiting next episode. |

Given the flashbacks and descriptions I would say that Yuki has not had much of a life and it is a miracle that she can still function at all. Yuki slowly learning that she can leave her old job behind and get used to a warm place to belong is nice to see. It is a show that is heartwarming though it gets pretty dark too.
Speaking of, the combination of Yuki just appearing on his doorstep and Yokoya making some ominous comments plus his parents not being in the picture... it makes me wonder if a certain someone got rid of them. |

Yay for me being wrong. Seems like the parents are very much still alive and healthy. I also like the addition of the sister to keep things from getting stale with the visit to the festival being fun. Seems like things are getting even more interesting with the school setting that I did not expect.

I agree that the anime is mixing it up, which is a great move as just having the two leads repeating the same dynamic episode after episode would have turned the house into a birdcage.
I did find myself wondering how naive all three of them had to be to walk along calmly talking about the little sister doing a school report on how her brother's maid is a former assassin, but other than that, I thought the episode was easy breezy fun time. It's looking like it's going to be another busy anime season. This was week 3, or the acid week test, and with most of the 18 anime I'm watching, the ones I had on the "Give them 3 episodes" list passed with me liking the 3rd episode better than the first - this being one of them. I'm not saying episode 3 was stunningly creative - look at how many times it cued to a shot of Yuki's cheeks slightly blushing for example - but geez, the anime is pretty (and not just Yuki) and well put together (and not just Yuki) and I enjoyed episode 3 for the bit of fun it was. Come to think of it, I haven't seen too many anime made on the cheap this Fall season. The Notorious Talker anime I suppose. And Banished Healer and Grieving Soul and The Trillion Game seem pretty standard across the board production wise. I don't recall 365 Days pinging on my radar one way or the other as far as art and music and animation go. But there are lots of anime that have gone above and beyond the norm production wise. Again, this anime being one of them. Just look at the opening and closing pieces, which may be my favorite for the season. |

I have yet to watch any episodes of this show, so I appreciate everyone's comments. After reading the general description of this show, the first reference I thought of was Roberta from Black Lagoon. A former FARC terrorist/assassin trying to do right by serving a young master. Boy didn't those drug lords find out the hard way not to mess with her charges.

I was going to say that this show is probably not going to include any action like that but after episode 4 I am honestly not so sure. The first half or so showed that adding the school setting makes for a lot of fun and is very welcome (the bread war was hilarious). The second half got a lot more serious though with another assassin popping up and not being happy with Yuki's new life.
Seems like we may see some conflict. @Edjwald agreed, this season has a lot of shows of good to great quality and even the stinkers do not smell that bad. The previous season was not bad at all but this one is a fair bit stronger. |

I haven't seen Black Lagoon, but I have seen Bento! and this week's bread rush gave me some fond flashbacks of that anime.
I wasn't expecting any visitors from Yuki's past to show up until towards the end of the season. Ms Servant is a little impressive in how it keeps bobbing and weaving to keep things from getting formulaic. If it strays into Spy Family boundaries of action and comedy, I'm okay with it. |

If I were looking at this as serious piece of work about assassination and covert warfare and such, there would be so much nonsense that it would take up paragraphs and paragraphs...from little things like Yuki being fine with Hitoyoshi standing in front of a window while a sniper might be outside, but not wanting him to open it, to big things like Yuki waiting until the agree upon hour and not taking advantage while the assassin was just hanging around off guard talking to Hitoyoshi for hours, or being able to throw knives fast enough to intercept bullets from a distance just based on being able to see a laser sight beam. And I'm finding the idea that Yuki didn't kill psycho nurse kitty kind of ridiculous. Even if psycho nurse kitty doesn't want to come back and try again despite Yuki announcing that she doesn't want to kill anyone, what's to keep her from selling info about Yuki since she's so money hungry?
So (Koff) good thing I'm not looking at this show from that perspective. Anyhow, I do think the show does sweet domestic comedy better than thriller stuff, so I'm hoping we'll either have a break from Yuki's past while she trains Hitoyoshi, or I'm hoping that the next person who shows up won't be as openly hostile. |
