IMO, the manga really, really picks up later, after where the three episodes cover. It’ll be worth it to stick with it.

How the hell is this considered rare for Trigger? They came out the gates blasting with Kill la Kill and everything after until Cyberpunk was mediocre or bad and such a mess.

Oh damn....if someone like Richard, who has remarkable tolerance for tropes and limited animation says something like this, then I probably should tame my expectation even lower.
Consider this being a continuous 2-cour, maybe the production is trying to conserve budget on the pivotal episodes? I am searching for copium at this point since first 3 episodes are supposed to be the most polished ones production wise (no this has nothing to do the mythical "3-episode rule") |

This was always a weird series to me.
The real appeal it's actually knowing about the monsters biology, the series grabs mythical creature, does its best to make its biology sounds legit and then asks "If this thing was real how would you kill it and then cook it". It's 1/3 fantasy, 1/3 National Geographic and 1/3 kitchen nightmares. Each episode we have the team finding the creature, discuss how it works, killing the creature with this info and then Senshi cooking the thing, there is not much action here until the final third of the plot. The real weird part its the character management, it doesn't matter how much info the series throws at you about them, you always feel as if you are missing something, kinda like Kaguya-sama, which porpurcelly begins with the plot already started and slowly explains each character to you and their backstory and by the end you feel you understand everybody. This series does the same thing, but I never felt I had a full grasp en everybody like In Kaguya, super weird feeling. Actually, the main reason I wanted to see this animated was that the anime will fix this issue for me. |

Considering how well-regarded source material and ending seems to have stuck the landing, I I kinda expected more positive review. I guess begging portion isn't as exciting, so I'll check it out myself, tone dissonance is often not an issue for me. Also didn't hear people ever referring to DM as series with high stakes, so I guess it's just wrong expectation.

Trigger don't usually do Manga adaptations, When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace was the last one, I wonder why they decided to adapt this particular title

Based on what Richard Eisenbeis covered in his review, I think he may have had the same reaction to the manga itself (or at least the first volume or two), so it may be more a case of the source premise just not clicking for him, than it being a failure of adaptation. |

Not to discount SSSS, LWA, etc. but people are always surprised when Trigger makes something kinda normal, and I feel like everyone still thinks "trigger = imaishi" or, even more likely, "trigger = gainax". |

I recently read the first volume or two of the manga, after the Trigger anime adaptation announcement. 'Just fine' is a good way to describe it.
I'm not too interested in the premise, and without the visual flair that made Trigger famous. their name alone isn't enough for me to watch something. . |

I'm not sure that's really a response to my post.
Actually, Franxx is more the weird one out because it is the most "fan perception of Trigger" show of all on paper, it has loads of prominent staff associated with Imaishi/Gainax/Khara, openly doing their usual things. I'd love to know what part of A-1 Pictures' identity (accurate or fan-mythologized) Franxx "clearly" displays. |

Uh... no?? That's absolutely not what I meant, and your interpretation of me is not something I secretly "know".
I could attempt to refute this point by point but even that requires guesswork on my part because I legitimately don't know what you think you're arguing with. I only said what I said. It wasn't secret code for me saying I like x show or dislike y show or whatever. |
