Ep4- About time to give this little story some love. I think it is quite a charming love story, though some insist on seeing slavery connections when there aren't any. With the addition of Tania I was prompted to say to the screen "dude, you have a great partner for life, you don't need another "ultimate species" aka girl. However, it seems the writer is managing to dodge the ol' harem bullet and have the girls have a believably amicable relationship outside the one they share with protag-kun. Now I can't wait to see them and him mop the floor with those slimes in the "Hero's Party" but it may turn out to be a more nuanced treatment of abuse and the abused. Looking forward...

Episode 13 (finale)
I have a number of different thoughts of this series. For one, I actually rather enjoy the revenge part the story, that is that he was wronged by the hero's party, but that did come down to them being generally awful people and Rein being a good guy who didn't let himself be controlled by revenge. Pretty sure I have seen things worse where the main character pretty much acts like the hero character. Rein pretty much being above all that made him much better. Now, I do like in theory the whole inhuman creature angle. But I don't like that much that in practice they were mostly just like human girls, with most of the inhuman parts coming across as not getting in the way of them being cute harem characters. Is it too much to ask for beast characters to beast like in the nature, and not just cute anime cat girls? Even a fairy that could look more human than most of the creatures, should get weird when it comes down to their other natures. And to touch on in effect really just being a bunch of normal girls, it made a lot of the contract elements kind of uncomfortable to me. Feels like it fits way too much into the trend of fantasy anime where the girls are put into slave contracts. Why has this become a trend? I thought maybe some elements could be improved by it not really slave magic, then maybe he was really knowledgeable about win-win situations with what he worked with, but there were sometimes that it did feel to stretch a little bit. As much as it was also cool to see him control swarms of insects. My rating will be Good (7/10), worth seeing with some parts surprisingly good, but held back for in other parts. |

Ep13- Well I was convinced I might be the only fan of this show, seems not. However, show has no nuance and is a standard if cute harem anime. When a ghost girl appears, how did I guess she would get added, as "phantom taming" is apparently possible and he just happens to know...? Anyway, the characters are all cute girls who get along and aren't too hot to "make it" with Rein so fairly tame for this sort of show.
And yes, being quasi-human doesn't seem to serve a purpose other than make Rein more powerful by osmosis and provide him capable specialist fighting companions as needed. I enjoyed it and if an S2 happens, I will look forward to that. Otherwise, another slightly forgettable anime. |
