Episode 4
Can I say that I am actually pretty digging this show. I have been having an increasingly difficult time really liking ecchi series, but I don't have that problem with this show, I think because that the primary sexy character actually likes being sexy. There isn't anything about her being forced into a compromising situation that shows off her body, it is all her own idea, which just makes it so better. Also granted, I also really like demon/Succubi stuff, so it is right in my strike zone. Also helps that the main character is not too bad, being that he is not really annoying, and not really feel like he as bad as a lot of the dense male characters, even if he gets flustered, he comes across as a nice guy. And the episode also had me start to like the secondary female character too, really what was getting me was when she did the cliche biting handkerchief, and it was mirrored by her wind spirit doing the same. For a moment I thought we might have also lucked out on the hot male teacher too, who is unapologetically goofy hotness, but it kind of quickly became obvious that he is one of those too good to be true, and will likely turn out to be a villain. Why do these character types show up in similar shows? At this point it kind of looks like we will find out he is an incubus, who is trying to artificially raise the mana of students, so that he can feed on them. |

:: i really like Vermeil in Gold . it·s depictions of my sexual appetites are quite accurate , and i like that it provides a visual explanation of how sex mana works ... and would also explain why i·m so [expletive] hungry lately . ;; |

I'm glad this show is trying to do more than be just kink and ecchi fuel, but it seems to really struggle at points with it.
Also, the dynamic is more creepy and hypocritical, because if the genders were reversed, people would be having a much bigger issue with the lack of consent between the two leads. It's aggravating because the show is REALLY trying hard to be both horny and compelling and it keeps fumbling because of how it wants to be ecchi fuel, but also have this intense backs tory for our familiar. It's a shame since when there isn't all the kink fuel, there are at points decent bits of chemistry between the leads. |

Yeah, I'm not a shotacon fan (nor lolicon, for that matter), but I find this show tolerable for some reason. Man, Japanese anime/manga creators really love linking up big titty milfs with boys. This is a subgenre of Japanese porn, too. (Not that the male performers are actually boys, of course, but they are small, (generally) young looking dudes who act and dress like boys.)

Episode 10
Damn it! Just because your tiresome wholly unoriginal cliche bad guy who wants to destroy the world admits on screen that he is in fact "a cliche bad guy who wants to destroy the world" ... that doesn't excuse it! I have detested every second that this cackling waste of text has been on screen. eeeeevvvvvviillll!!! I'm so.... EVIL! Seriously, ten episodes in and I'm not sure I want to bother finish the show. |

You're not curious what turned cute little Vermeil down the path of demonhood?

It's the only thing that will get me to come back. But if the return doesn't feature a quick and decisive beat down, and instead promises a rematch in a final showdown.... the only way I'll make it through a finale will be with the +10sec button.
I wasn't really all that wild about much of the rest of the episode either. The test itself was alright, but the chatter was tedious, the kid murder just sadistic, and Vermeil's skinny boy thirst was just annoying service that has run its course. ...and if you're going to hold a conversation between two naked women in a shower, could you try to make it at least a little exciting? |

My assumption is that the flashback/dream will take up most of the next episode and then there's one episode left for the "exciting" climax battle.

Ep10- Right you are! An angel or demon? She's a woman and can be both and when "good people" become demons, what should a righteous girl do but stop them and make them pay for their sins? It takes a strong partner to accept all she is, but if he is "the one", he will be able to see what she really is and redeem her past. That's called Love...
This show just got way more interesting and I feel sorry that it isn't getting attention it deserves... |

Vermeil was just a kid, killing her family was tantamount to destroying her world, it should not be on her that she happened have such power destroyed so many of them in return. She also clearly took no pleasure after the fact, and it weight heavy on her conscience. think that the emotions really got to me in the ED, where we do see that a lot of the words were in reference to her wanting just a normal happy life.
In terms of this show being worthy of attention, I have agreed. when it did things like fanservice, it did so in ways I could get behind, and its OP characters have not come across to me like the kind to have me roll my eyes because conflict is clearly always going to go some way. And I can even get behind our protagonist despite him being a goody, where his nature does work with what he did to Vermeil's inner child. |

Episode 12 (finale)
I wouldn't say that it was amazing finale, mostly just a quiet bookend that makes it feel like we have an end, while the story still continues so you should pick up the original manga. I really would just be repeating my previous two posts, that I think that I think in a primary ecchi series that mostly get ticks from me. Them kissing is just so much better than many other stuff, which might feel more exploitive. Vermeil's adult figure is nice, which is cool in a medium that more often than not goes for the younger look. Maybe in that ways, Alto is a little disappointing as clearly a teenager compared to Vermeil, but what are we going to do when I think it is pretty clear he is meant to be somewhat an insert character for a certain age range. But despite that he was also not annoying. But there was also other parts that I thought contributed to some nice charm. A particular image that just really grabbed my attention, was actually one of Lilia bitting a handkerchief out of jealousy, and this being mirrored in her little familiar doing the same thing. I thought that it was a really fun image, something that would make a character look too dramatic and petty, something unsympathetic, but going around again to actually be interesting. She was also a horny teenager, who worked better than most possessive established tsundere. Marx was even an enjoyable character, as a pretty boy who was way too confident in his own abilities, benefiting inherited family ties. I think it was that he didn't quite come across as antagonistic, and his self assurance in things like his beetle familiar was charming. Perhaps he and his maid, Sharol, did feel a bit underutilised despite I think meant to be part of the main cast. Her being obviously far better than Marx, but still acting her part as his sidekick. I thought the show was cool, where it could have a bully character, then have a bully to the bully, where I would say we could feel sympathy for him and some character growth. And that dinosaurs can be cool too, even when there are dragons. I would say that it generally worked with the emotional stuff, it could be easy to get drawn into how it wanted the audience to feel, without coming across as being too manipulative. I also notably enjoyed the ED song. Mili songs seem to often be ones I really enjoy, they also did the Executioner OP and the OP for Goblin Slayer. My rating is going to be Very good (8/10), which I don't know is if because I have not enjoyed a lot else, and I wouldn't give the same score if a continuation was this same level, but I think that I am just in a mood at the moment give it this. |
