Kanno is a god! I love every anime she touches. And Macross is Gospel (except Macross 7, we will forget about that mistake) So I see this series going far. Loved the first episode out a few months back, and I'm losing my mind waiting on it to air this summer.

This clearly pleases me. Now, I have even more reason to look forward to this show.

I would hazard to guess that:
1. she'll only do series that are top-level quality (ok, besides wolf's rain)
2. and that only the really high-budget shows can afford her

Or that times are tough and she's hungry.

Ehh, I still believe "New Frontier" by Yoshiki Fukuyama would be a more fitting opening. I will continue to think so until this OP can wow me.

I'm confused. Are you saying that Wolf's Rain is not "top-level" quality? I think that the production values for Wolf's Rain is at least as good as Brain Powered (which she scored the same year as Bebop) which never struck me as "really high" budget. I would also debate if the excellent Please Save My Earth which introduced me to Kanno is "really high budget." I actually bought the PSME OST when it came out since I was already a big Hajime Mizoguchi fan because of To-y.

While I'll admit I'm only a little more than halfway through the series, I think "Macross 7" is pretty good, especially given the amount of hate it seems to get (using a certain Youtube user as an example: "picture rosie odonnell stripping....that bad").
Personally, just based on what I've heard her do so far, I think Kanno is overrated. Looking at individual pieces of music, she's definatealy "decent" if not "good", but when I go based on what she's done in terms of a series, I just don't feel she deserves her reputation; there are a few good or even great tracks, but then there are tracks that make decent BGM and fail to stand out on their own, and even tracks that are mediocre or bad, and usually, it seems that these outnumber the good/great tracks by a fair margain.
Though I'm still optimistic whenever I see her attached to something, and heres hoping she can kick ass with "Macross F".
EDIT: I want to put emphasis on "based on what I've heard her do so far"; I've only heard her music for a few select series, so if I listen to a lot of her stuff, its possible I'll think higher of her.

If a composer gets tons of offers, which criteria would you think they would use to pick the ones they work on? The Macross franchise has everything - a good budget, a familiar staff to work with, and successful sales and reviews of the Macross Plus OST.
Putting that aside, this set of news is really interesting since Kanno and Sakamoto have not worked together for a long time. The impact is stronger with the knowledge that Sakamoto's first five (or six) albums were composed by Kanno, and suddenly, it was off. Let this news put the nail on the coffin of the rumor that they had a fight

I'm looking forward to this since these two are my fav singer/producer team in anime. I've loved every opening/movie theme they have done together, especially RahXephon's "Hemisphere".
Hopefully the Frontier opening can join Hemisphere

How can you say something is not as fitting when you haven't even heard it?

It's a classic and is probably my fav insert song in anime period but I really love it when in anime endings the music starts up before the ED credits. This technique has been used great in shows like Angelic Layer, Gundam SEED, Honey and Clover, Nodame Cantabile and of course Macross Plus. Ai, Oboete imasu ka really can't be used like that so I hope the ED can be.
