They are going with Gundam: The Origin canon where he shows up much, much earlier then he did in the original anime. Honestly, I don't understand why they aren't bothering to animating the whole manga then.

No surprise there. I think they're basically using everyone that was already in The Origin.
Which I guess means, if this is inevitably dubbed, the English cast for The Origin will finally get to play their characters in their traditional status quo instead of a prequel. Lucien Dodge will get to play Gundam pilot Amuro.

I don't know how many more times it needs to be stated, but sales weren't there, and there's the whole deal with stepping all over Tomino. It doesn't need to be done and Sunrise won't be doing it either. Yaz chose to do this movie because it was one of the completely outsourced episodes from the original TV series. There's plenty of material to adapt it into a 2-hour plus movie, according to his latest interview in gundam ace.

I'm so excited for this and it's always a treat to hear Toru Furuya and Toshio Furukawa!

Can Furuya and Furukawa even pull their roles at their age 40+ years later?

I've heard them in Detective Conan and Gegege no Kitaro 2018 respectively quite recently and they sound incredible, especially considering their age. I have no doubt they'll do just fine.

If we’re being fair hasn’t Tomino stepped on himself when making changes to certain things in the adaptations?

No Tessho Genda. I'm happy otherwise though.
