Makes no mention if there will be multiple languages or subtitles. So it will probably be a Japanese language release. Wonder if it will be region locked to on YouTube.

Turns out it's not region-locked, but there are no subs and no option to add subs. This is purely for Japanese viewers.

It's weird they can stream it for free worldwide (no subtitles though), but Funimation only has home video/theater rights? You can't even buy these movies on iTunes or Amazon video in the west or rent digitally. With the Ghibli movies becoming widely available via Netflix and HBO and video-on-demand services, why are these movies still bluray/dvd exclusive in the west?

The Ghibli movies have only started to make the move to streaming recently and it apparently took a lot of pressure from Suzuki to convince Miyazaki. But even with the recent addition of Ghibli to HBO Max, that's more the exception than the rule as anime movies are still pretty costly to stream. It is strange that they're not on Amazon or iTunes but the physical releases are pretty cheap.

What lol. They own the movies, pretty sure they can stream it wordwide if they want.
