I know there have been other threads about the ending of Gilgamesh, but I wanted to discuss it in a certain context. I have not "blacked out" the spoilers since I included it in the subject title. (If I need to edit this let me know, I'm new to the forums)
As most people here, I was extremely unhappy with the ending. I noticed many Christian themes throughout the series (which I don't mind), but I felt they influenced the ending too much. I'm wondering if any religious Christians enjoyed the ending more. And if so, could you explain it to me so I might get more out of it.
I could write an entire essay on this subject, but I'll just briefly throw out the themes and let others expand on the deeper meaning.
Stem Cells/Cloning = Against G-d's will - people must be punished
Cloned Children = Virgin Mary's conception
Tatsuya's Shirt w/Cross = Tatsuya, Countess, and cloned children die for humanity's sins - sacrifice self for humanity
Cleansing Flood = Noah's Flood
Kiyoko's Tuning fork in womb = Adam's rib - used to create humans
TEAR and Gilgamesh - Satan and fallen angels

Well, if you know your history, many aspects of the bible were stolen directly by the Gilgamesh tails, such as the great flood. So in fact, the themes in Gilgamesh are original and the bible has Gilgamesh themes.

I guess the point I was trying to make was that I am trying to understand the ending. I thought maybe seeing it in terms of Christianity would give it context. But perhaps it was just a bad ending. Or maybe, as Reiko would say - "I'm just too stupid to understand it."
However, I'm not Christian, so the themes didn't mean much to me - but I know even less about Sumerian history. I guess I'm just frustrated because I liked about 97% of the series which would be fine except that the last 3% occurred at the end - leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
I'm not even complaining, I just want some understand. This is like a good relationship that ends badly for no reason. I need some closure so I can move on.

I haven't seen a second of Gilgamesh, but in my experience heavily religious themes + bad ending = pretentious EVA knockoff.

I actually thought that the ending made the show worth while for me to watch. By that I mean it was the only redeeming thing about the show. I didn't care for it, in fact I thought it was pretty much a giant suck fest. I was really sad that I had watched the whole thing until the end. At that point I wasn't totally disappointed in myself.

I have rather mixed feelings on the series. It's not good enough to be called good and not bad enough for me to rate it low. It falls in my So So catagory I think. The story was interesting enough but I didn't really like many of the characters and well I thought the character designs themselves were awful as well. As for the end I was thouroughly and absolutely confused as well, so I can't say much other than It seemed that TEAR was betrayed by the girl's child or maybe it remembered what had happened to it's mother because it just for some reason decided to stab Tear with the Tuning Fork.
