You don't need the extra ? at the end of the original title only the second anime is titled with the !?.

I was one of the people happy for a Negima continuation, and then recent chapters took the (unfortunately, COMPLETELY expected) most "Akamatsu" route of all and it killed my interest in the franchise. (I know others disagree, but *ugh*)

Nice article, but it doesn't really answer the simple question of why it never was faithfully adapted? It's not a particularly complicated story...
I quite liked the manga, especially the fight scene which were pretty cool looking, I rather like Akamatsu art style in even in love hina the battle were well done. I thought I would be interested in UQ holder since its a more overt battle manga, but the first episode was just "meh", with nothing particularly interesting. |

I think Negima has some great elements to it so I was happy to hear that an anime of UQ Holder was getting made. It is ironic though that the sequel is the first anime released in the west to accurately portray Negima.

Regardless of how awkward it is looking at it now, the original Negima! anime still holds a place in my heart as one of the first anime I watched outside of what was airing on TV at the time. That said, I disagree with your "totally forgettable" claim, at least on a personal level.
Besides, who could possibly forget Greg Ayres' attempt at a British accent? |

But I really have to wonder: Does anyone care of Negima as a complex, well developed shonen series on the likes of Hunter x Hunter? Because this situation sounds more like making a storm out of a glass of water, given that Negima's manga is tooooooooooooo far from Shonen Jump shonen mangas in popularity. And I might think even in its best arcs, Negima is far from complex entertainment.

Only if one of the animation company could take on the anime adaption Negima! and properly restart it from beginning to the end without cutting too much contents for the anime version.
First Negima! anime was utterly garbage that it shouldn't exist in the first place. 2nd Negima!? anime was very interesting and unique in its own right, but it has nothing to do with the manga, story-wise, unfortunately. I have no idea on the OVAs since I've never seen 'em. Negima! manga was actually one of my top 10 favorite manga of all time. |

I think the problem is i think the Anime houses were in decline at the time. I mean they turned Negima into fan-service anime-wise more so than manga was, where it was at least balance.
UQ Holder the sequel to Negima 70 years later, answers questions what happen. In the manga, there appears top be multiple universes, where the original manga had happy ending, but UQ Holder was not...I think anime going to ignore that stuff and just make it anime that direct sequel with one timeline.

You can't discuss shounen without talking about HunterxHunter, in the trash your opinion goes. Also learn English. But anyhow I guess I'll finally get around to reading Negima, both it and UQ Holder have held my interest for a long time. How accurate is the UQ Holder anime to it's manga? |

Yeah, reading the entire article was really jarring and confusing since the series was referred to as Negima! and the anime being "Mahou Sensei Negima!" "Negima!?" was the unusual meme filled spin-off that strayed even more. |

Huh? The first anime aired on TV Tokyo (which, at least at the time, wasn't very fanservice-friendly) and, to my recollection, didn't have a single pantyshot, whereas the manga was stuffed with them. The one that was story relevant was in the TV version a pink screen with a bear in the middle - they added some creases to this scene for the DVD and (again, IIRC) two brief panty flashes elsewhere but in no way would I say that there was more service in the anime. |

If you are not seeing a lot of fanservice in the Negima manga you just aren't looking. It wasn't very erotic but it was plentiful. Pantyshots and even complete nudity. It starts on the train before Negi even gets to the school and continues relentlessly. (Negi sneezes and girls skirts flip up). It is possible that color and movement makes it stand out more, but it was always there. Asuna especially, spoiler[since she was completely immune to magic spells, anything directed at her simply destroyed her clothes.] |

While I don't consider Negima the most compelling shounen manga. It definitely has some of the more memorable casts, which was probably what made both anime at least enjoyable if nothing else. The original series had a pretty lackluster (cough rushed cough) final arc and ending so maybe UQ Holders will fix some of the most glaring faults.

Before watching the first anime kept hearing some folks say it wasn't good, but the Funimation dub made it better. When I saw it, I did like it. Then again, not as attached to the manga. Did once ask at a Funimation panel about the ovas some years back, but they said they had no plans for them. Still enjoy my copy of the complete series, autographed by many of the actresses. Now if only Mr. Ayres would be at a con I'm going to...
