This is interesting but a list-only thread may be dis-allowed.
There was a huge batch of bilingual manga released over a few year period by Kodansha, other than that there are a bunch of one off projects. If you are going to include digital-only "books" like Yanmama Diaries, I think this list could get rather massive. Anpanman (HC) 3 volumes Ochibisan 4 volumes The Habu Hunter Hello Guyana Speaking The Adlib Report Nyan Nyan Girls High School The Chef Stealing The Future I Give My First Love to You I Don't Like Friday (HC) 5 volumes The Story of Kamayan The Art of Laughing at Japan Inc Doraemon 16 volumes (series of 10, plus series of 6) Ijiwaru Ba san - Granny Mischief 3 volumes Zipang 3 volumes Sushi and Wine Kashimashi House Devilman 5 volumes - but about to be published in US for the first time Akko-Chan's Got a Secret! 2 volumes Seito Shokun 4 volumes Last edited by Land Stander on Wed Sep 13, 2017 11:38 am; edited 1 time in total |

Well I saw a list with Japanese home video releases with English subtitles, so I figured this is allowed too. Thanks a lot for your additions! Btw, Doraemon actually has four official English volumes but they were only released in Asia. And there are 200 volumes on the Amazon Kindle Store in North America. Well its origin wasn't digital-only. used to be published in a Japanese community newsletter in Yangon during the late 90’s |

The 4 Doraemon books the you mention, what Asian country were they published in? LS |

I'll add some more titles later. I'll have to search my mind a little better. Also I'm not positive which were published in the US etc without checking. How about the Sherlock manga or chihayafuru - were they published outside of Japan?

In Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Brunei by Shogakukan Asia. http://shogakukan.asia/doraemon-4/ They contain a selection of the chapters that are in the 200 volumes on Kindle, but the print version is black and white while the Kindle version is full color. There also is the magazine Mangajin intended for people learning Japanese, which in each issue included bilingual manga such as KochiKame or more obscure manga. For example issue 55 contains: And issue 11:
Great. Yes, both were published in English in the US. But Chihayafuru only digital. |

Very fine job on the Mangajin list.
Still going over the bilingual manga in Japan, not published outside of Japan, may I add that there are 10 volumes of OL. There were 5 larger Kodansha paperbacks, then a set of 3 small pocket books, and then 2 more pocket sized books. Big Ugly Robot Publishing is based in Nagoya, Japan but not sure if they publish in US as well, or are all exported. Anyway, these 2 are bilingual; The Love Suicides at Sonezaki by Chieko Kobayashi http://dlp2gfjvaz867.cloudfront.net/product_photos/51448991/_E8_A1_A8_E7_B4_99_400w.jpg Story of Stories by Tetsuya Yamamoto http://d1nr5wevwcuzuv.cloudfront.net/product_photos/43595111/cover_400sq.jpg |

Probably all of the rest of the Kodansha bilingual manga project now appears in English outside of Japan;
Love Hina Kindaichi Oh My Goddess GTO Peach Girl Chobits Tale of Genji Princess Knight There were also 3 volumes of Gegege no Kitaro which were so great when they appeared. Now that Drawn and Quarterly has been publishing the same series, they have probably been made redundant... or about to be. hmmmm.... Have I missed anything? Rose of Versailles was published in English, with some Japanese notes. Not bilingual. A number of manga were printed ONLY in English, ONLY in Japan, but that would be another list, eh? LS |

Mutant Hanako - Japanese, with all English translation in the back of the book.
Bilingual, but awkwardly so~ https://www.amazon.co.jp/ミュータント花子-会田-誠/dp/4900387789/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505393078&sr=8-1&keywords=ミュータント花子 About a third of it was excerpted in English in Secret Comics Japan. LS |

It goes without saying that Amazon is a big bookstore. lol
It is not only where we BUY a lot of manga but also where we LEARN ABOUT what exists. Before Amazon we depended on bookstores to look things up on microfiche. Amazon is our big book database. Where Amazon fails us is in not standardizing key search words, like "bilingual". When searching for bilingual manga on Amazon.jp, you have to try several different combinations of comic, comics, manga plus bilingual, and searching "English" in the Japanese category, or "Japanese" in the English category. And then searching all of these things in both Nihongo and Eigo. You'll notice that some of the bilingual manga I have added to the list have no indication at all on their Amazon page that they are in fact bilingual, in any descriptive terms.. Maybe there is a big benefit to creating this bilingual manga list. I have never seen a definitive one. |

Thanks for the additions again! I've added them.
The English releases only features selected manga chapters, so I'm pretty sure the bilingual releases contain different chapters. So I've added it to the list.
Which ones? I could add them in a separate list, as they are probably as hard to find as the bilingual manga. And yeah, I've had the same problem when searching for the bilingual manga. Amazon could've created a separate selection. |

I'll have to compare the 2 series of gegege sometime, although 2 more are coming.
As for only English, only in Japan, here is a start of THAT list; The Ruler of Virtue "Masayuki Hoshina" https://www.amazon.co.jp/“Masayuki-Hoshina”-Episode-Meireki-名君保科正之〜明暦の大火編〜English/dp/4902438895/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1505574793&sr=1-1 Just As You Are; Manga Biography of Pure Land Master Honen Shohin https://www.amazon.co.jp/Just-you-are―-manga-biography/dp/4883630455/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505574722&sr=8-1&keywords=Just+as+you+are―the+manga+biography The Manga Biography of Kenji Miyazawa https://www.amazon.co.jp/Manga-Biography-Miyazawa-Author-Railway/dp/4990284844/ref=sr_1_1?s=english-books&ie=UTF8&qid=1505574895&sr=1-1 The Manga Story of Jo Niijima https://www.amazon.co.jp/Manga-Story-Niijima―-Quest-Freedom/dp/4903822710/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505556715&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Manga+Story+of+Jo+Niijima A Sequel to the Manga Story of Jo Niijima https://www.amazon.co.jp/sequel-manga-Niijim―-challenge-establis/dp/4903822664/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1505556740&sr=1-2 I can add some older ones but I don't see most of them on Amazon Last edited by Land Stander on Sat Sep 16, 2017 10:15 am; edited 1 time in total |
