I just hope The Chipmunks don't get nominated. There's a lot of controversy
over Beowulf being nominated, though. |

Woah, it would be great if they nominated Tekkonkinkreet. It was one of the most touching films I have seen.
Would also be great if the world realized that not only Ghibli exists outside of America. |

Any complaints about Beowolf being nominated are quite silly, it is completely animated.
I hope that Tekkonkinkreet gets a nomination, but I don't think anything will beat Ratatouille for the Oscar. |

I can already see Ratatouille, Meet the Robinsons & either Shrek or TMNT being the 3 nominated.
I seriously think there should be 2 "Animated Feature" catagories, one for 3-Dimensional and another for 2-Dimensional style animations. But I know people were angry they added the Animated Feature catagory in the first place, so I doubt it'll happen. |

Tekkonkinkreet is an amazing movie. It should be nominated, but it doesn't appear that the Academy thinks animation can be for anyone but children :[

Ratatouille has already won. This isn't even a matter of question.

It would be nice to see it nominated, it really deserves some recognition. But it won't (and shouldn't) win. Ratatouille will win, and rightfully so. It was most definitely the best film this year, animated or otherwise.

Doesn't stand a chance. Ratatouille, Shrek 3 and Beowulf are the likely nominees, although Shrek could be swapped out for Surf's Up if enough academy members saw it.

A shame too. 1) Anime needs some positive media right now and 2) Shrek 3 was amusing, but not Oscar worthy imho. From a literary merit POV, I'd rather see Tekkon on the ballot than Shrek 3. -t |

Of the films listed I've only seen Ratatouille. I can't compare it to Tekkon Kinkreet but I thought it was a fantastic film. One of my favorites of the year.

If we're making wishes, I'd much rather see Paprika nominated than Tekkon. |

Cool. But I think Ratatouille will get the Oscar, it's one of the most positively-reviewed movies of the year. I'm rooting for The Simpsons Movie and Persepolis (haven't seen it yet, but the comic book is amazing and I've heard good things about it) to get nominations, though it's unlikely.

Zac: Same, but Kon got screwed again. But Arias might know more industry people he can "influence"[i.e. bribe] than Kon, so TK might have a better chance. Of course, "A Scanner Darkly" should've been a shoo-in, too, so nothing's guaranteed....

Tekkonkinkreet was an alright movie I thought. If there was five slots instead of three, even then, I am not sure it could go in.
Ratatouille is probably the only shoo-in at this point (based on box office clout and favorable reviews). Shrek 3 and Bee Movie may join it as well based on the name recognition attached to each. Beowulf (depending on the box office numbers) and the Simpsons would probably take up the third tier of movies to be nominated. And if the committee really wanted to put in a foriegn animated feature, they may go with Persepolis given its subject matter and praise it seems to be garnering. So while cool if it is nominated, I can't see it happening. My prediction would be Ratatouille, Simpsons and Shrek 3. With Persepolis as a dark horse. |

I'm still partially miffed that last year's episode with that Arthur movie (?) whittled down the nominations, and likely edged Paprika out of possibly being nominated. And that's what I care about most... a nomination. That brings some recognition to a film, even if it's just a teeny bit. And, frankly, a "teeny bit" would be a win to a Kon fan like me. Maybe someone who had never heard of Satoshi Kon would have given the Paprika a shot because it was nominated. Even if they decided they didn't like it, at least they still watched it. |
