Okay, I'm sorry, but this is completely unnecessary. With Japanese figure companies having covered all the bases including super-poseable small-scale action figure (figma) to large-scale highly-detailed figure (RAH), I really don't see the point of it.

@Actar : Maybe they are trying to cash in on the fandom? The series still remained relevant eventhough that the anime has aired a while ago but if the 2nd season can somewhat increase the reputation again next year, then no questions ask. Furthermore, I think the price might be more affordable as figurine originally made in Japan seemed to be a bit pricey.

One point is price, they're only $20, not $45 for the figma or $230 for the RAH if you go with an exporter, MUCH more from an importer ($65 and $290 respectively at BBTS). The other point is distribution, you wont find figma or RAH at most "brick and mortar" store locations, but you'll likely find these at Toys R Us or comic shops.
My only complaint is that this is clearly a fix-posed statue and any articulation is incidental due to assembly or replaceable parts, not actual useful articulations. 14 is a big number, I can only count potentially 6 points, maybe 8.

It is interesting to see McFarlane Toys get back into anime figures. They did Trigun, Tenchi and GITS figures a long time ago.

I'll be keeping an eye on this. I've been wanting to get a Mikasa figure for a while, but it keeps taking a back seat. I'll probably get it as long as the final product doesn't look terrible.

Macfarlane has a lot of clout among collectible shops, comic book shops, and hobby shops in the United States (and presumably other countries), and these Mikasas will undoubtedly make their way into businesses that Japanese companies like Figma will never reach or hear about.
And it's not like there are Mikasas from pretty much every Japanese collectible company already. Every company has its own way of doing things too, resulting in a slightly different style. I'm no authority on figures, but I do collect plushes, and I can name Olyfactory as a company that overlaps with Aurora, Ty, Tomy, and Banpresto in licensed characters. When such an overlap occurs, Olyfactory's plush is instantly distinguishable from the other companies'.
For Americans, this also means they don't have to deal with import costs, as it'll be made domestically. At US$20, it also far undercuts most of the Japanese Mikasa figures.

Be thankful you can get the pre-order for a cheap price. Even if it is a collector's item, I don't see the point of dropping triple-digits for a toy like that.

Yeah, that's essentially the difference in design philosophy between US and Japanese figure makers. Japanese designers design a super-poseable base body (base bodies have been released in the figma and figuarts lines) and sculpt the character's likeness around it. On the other hand, US designers usually start with a fixed-pose statue and just cut it up to add articulation.
