If this becomes a sport then I guess I won't be able to say I don't watch sports anymore lol.

This is probably the article you were talking about: http://www.popsci.com/giant-fighting-robot-tests-pilot-safety-features
It sounds like it was just the cockpit that has to be redesigned, not the entire robot.

I'd love for this to work, but realistically the match will probably last only a few second, giant machine are pretty fragile, doubly so when they have squishy human in them.

Until then, you can watch BattleBots and/or Robot Wars, both of which have been revived. I love robot combat, and I am also looking forward to this.

This is the type of sport I would watch on ESPN.

This is going to be interesting. If I were doing this, the giant robot would be named Lancelot or Gawain. The Japanese side would probably name theirs Masamune or Kusanagi or something like that. I hope this shows up on TV. It'd probably be great to watch.

All we need is for some industrious rogue to use these kits to commit robot-related crimes, and the world of Patlabor will finally come to fruition! Police budgets permitting, of course.
