Can't really blame them. I just watched "Kokoro" the other day finally and I absolutely loved it, but it definitely didn't do anything I would say was "Award" worthy except maybe having an extremely likable cast lol.

In what time frame do the movies have to be screened in order to be considered for the award?
I would've liked to see Red Turtle win this year.
Next year will go to Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni, I hope.

I find American Awards are completely different than French Awards. France puts out a lot of Oscar-bait shorts and independant animation and auteur films. With American awards they just look at children shows on TV and the stuff on Fox when they give out the awards. France has its dedicated small animation environment dedicated towards award shows. So well it's biased, it's not nearly as insulting as some faceless panel just grabbing a random Cartoon Network show and claiming it's the best thing ever.

There really isn't anything that deserves it. It's been an especially dreadful couple of years for anime and the way it's going I doubt anything ever comes close to Annecy again as it's just too commercialized now to warrant consideration for an international and animated film festival. They'll just have to give the awards to themselves which they're getting pretty good at now.

I find it more surprising than anything. ANN is usually so about the spin of trying to promote the idea that everything is 100% totally okay in the anime scene (since it's so in bed with the industry now and it's fortunes tied closely to the R1 industry in particular) and that it's still cranking out memorable recognition worthy titles when IMO it demonstrably hasn't in at least a few years and isn't showing any signs that it's going to again any time soon.

Wonder why Hosoda latest was not there. It sure was not his best movie but worth of few accidental awards methinks.
They did not dare to put Girls und Panzer under consideration, it would have taken home everything.

All award shows are politics. I don't see how an anime not winning a foreign award show is an indication anime is on the decline. Besides, Japan has their own award festivals and events, and anime wins those all the time. I think you're reading a bit too much into this.

No, not really. They are marketing.

Anyone no quips about Western awards are against anime? |

And yet, anime still don't win neither, so either they don't get anime or anime isn't as good as some people think it to be

We cover Annecy's nominations and awards every year, similarly to coverage of Academy Awards. Annecy is the oldest and largest animation festival, so we decided we should cover it as closely as we cover the Academy Awards.
Also, as the article mentions, most years anime films, shorts, and other works do win many of the top awards, including the Jury Distinction prize.

The film actually screened out of competition as part of an open-air screening available to the public during the festival. I added that information to the article.
