Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (TV) Genres: action, drama, science fiction Themes: mecha, military, post-apocalyptic, war Plot Summary: 300 years after a great conflict between Earth and Mars known as the "Calamity War," a woman named Cordelia sets out on a journey to Earth to speak for the independence of the Martian city of Chryse, which is under the control of the Earth government. Escorting her is the private security company CGS members Mikazuki Augus and Orga Itsuka. When a group named Gjallarhorn attacks CGS and Cordelia, Orga sees this as a chance to rebel against CGS and launch a coup. Mikazuki and Orga are thrust into a new conflict. To fend off Gjallarhorn, Mikazuki rides an old mobile suit from the Calamity War, powered by a nuclear reactor, the Gundam Barbatos. ---------------------------------- A new Gundam series by Sunrise! This one has war drama in it and although I have some mixed feelings about the staff, it still gives me a nice feel to realize that the show will give a serious nature of the Gundam franchise. The preview's OST is also amazing so far imo. This takes over Arslan Senki's time slot so I expect at the very least a 2 cour. |

Aldnoah.zero be banished from this anime and go back to the black abyss you crawled out from!
In all seriousness, I'm not sure I'm excited for this one after reconguista. It look nice and the gundam looks cool minus the oversized spear, but meh. It's been so long since I've really enjoyed a mech anime I'm starting to think it might be me. |

Holy shit; a Gundam series that doesn't make use of some seemingly random letter(s) in its title (ZZ, G, Turn A, UC, SD...)!
In all seriousness, might pick it up later. Been thinking about getting back into Gundam after the fifteen years since Mobile Suit Gundam Wing was one of my favourite shows. |

Episode 1:
Wow, that exceeded my expectations. Off to a good start with the action, OST (yes, one of the best so far imo for the season), and mecha designs. I hope we learn about the characters in particular Aina. The show also gave me a bit of Gundam 00 vibes as this does seem to be quite serious in nature. I hope it gets a decent amount of episodes though as the story is fascinating.... |

A decent opener, but nothing's particularly hooked me as of yet.

When comparing Ep 1s to 00 and Rec G, IBO is straight forward set up that establishes our dogs of war, an overly naïve princess, and a setting that war is STILL in fact hell where child soldiers are little more than cannon fodder.
It isn't perfect to completely me sell on a full series, but it certainly has a worthy bid for my tastes. |

One of the more believable setups for child soldiers in mechs I've seen in a while.
No cgi mechs is a major plus as well. |

Yeah pretty good, and I agree the OST defiantly stands out. I like the main character, the princess is a bit too cliche but fine.
I really wish the bad guys (both the base commander and the attacking unit) weren't so cartoonish evil. But I'm guessing there just early bad guys and soon enough well have a more charismatic Char stand in. |

That blonde pretty boy voiced by Sakurai is going to be our Char clone. Though since he is voiced by Sakurai it probably means he'll lose his shit at some point.

Hum, good point, I guess he'll stay behind while MC will go on earth, then something will happen to separate them (martian find super weapon and attack earth, maybe? That would make it a bit too much like A/Z). And he'll be leading the attack. |

Episode 2:
Good action this week in conjecture with its choreography. I like how the series focused a bit about Mika, Orga, and Aina's message to the world. Honestly, it will take a lot of time and effort to solve their problems but I think the show is getting its point across quite well. On another note, the show retains its comedy and bits of relationship dynamics already. It's also nice to see Bicuit's family as well. His sisters are adorable~ |

Another solid episode to what is already my favorite series of the season (sorry One-Punch Man).
I still can't get over how natural and believable these teenagers operating giant robots is in this series. Child Soldiers and Neural Links solve all logic problems. Who knew! |

I agree, this show has been really solid so far. Aside from them being child soldiers (either that or starve on the streets), the Alaya Vijnana system is a pretty grim way of explaining away why a kid's piloting the Gundam. Keep in mind the danger of the Alaya operation and the fact that Mika's got three of them on his spine.
Mika can be quite chilling, there was a lot of menace in his voice during the fight between Crank and his men. Oh yeah, Mika is actually illiterate, which is why he didn't read what the other guy (forgot his name) wanted him to read. |

Money says when Aina gets serious, she's going to chop off that pony tail (Daily Double if she uses a knife) and be left with her helmet hair.
