I just watched the movie and series and was just wondering if anyone was disappointed with how the movie ended it all? spoiler[ I don't know but leaving them in another world for what, equivalent exchange? Couldn't they just seal it from one side? What happened to the rest of the characters? Leaving Winry hanging back most likely forever without either Ed or Al now, especially Ed? How did things go with the colonel mustang and the leutinant? The relationship between Winry and Ed was again just assumptions/hints like in the series, either don't add the little hints of something more or actually just have something happen between them when you`re going to end the show.]
I don't know, but I was expecting a great movie, the action sequence at the end was good, but otherwise it seemed like the movie was building up to this huge moment of spoiler[ Ed reuniting with everyone and it just ended up being this little scene that made it seem like Ed was gone only for a few months and never "died" to them (which I guess can be true, since they somewhat believed he was still alive). The whole Nazi/Germany plot line was just strange, the gypsy girl was more of a focal point in the story than most of the main cast in the series. I wish they'd make another one at least or something, cause this in my opinion wasn't a great send off for the show.] I guess I just had high expectations after watching the show and ending up be thoroughly disappointed. [EDIT: Fixed your spelling of Fullmetal Alchemist, adjusted the title to fit the specific content, and added spoiler tags. -TK] |

Well, it's actually one's point of view. The ending is not that good because spoiler[ only Ed and Al got reunited. I agree with you.] But then again, if you're blaming the movie for disappointing you, well, all i can say is, it's the thought that counts. So if you were disappointed, don't linger in your disappointment and try another movie. There's a lot of good movies out there. Really.

If you ever get the chance check out the Full Metal Alchemist manga (Which is what the anime based its story off of). I personally think that the manga is a funnier and more light hearted take on the story(It's gotten much darker in the recent chapters) than the anime which felt dark and at some points depressing. I'm personally looking forward to seeing how FMA actually ends in the manga.

I was somewhat disappointed with the ending of the FMA movie. Simply because spoiler[Ed and Al ended up being permanently(?) separated from everyone in Amestris.] Poor Winry.
![]() I was happy that spoiler[Ed and Al were finally reunited] though, which made the film satisfying enough for me. |

i kinda liked it, the fact that spoiler[ ed and al where together again in their real bodys and where able to spend time together, didn't like the fact that they left winry behind cause she really liked Ed lol.]

Honestly, reading the 1st post, I thought to myself "you must be a shoujo fan." spoiler[I never saw a relationship to be resolved with Roy and Hawkeye, for starters- she was his supporter, kinda like Hughes. She admired him. In my mind, the very fact that Roy de-exiled himself and came as the Col. Mustang he was resolved that.
As for Ed and Winry... the lack of resolution is their resoultion in my mind. Maybe every once in awhile the thought crossed her mind... but I don't think it ever crossed his. The fact that he left again gives Winry her answer, now she can move on. Basically, through the whole TV series, there was only 1 person Ed was bound and determined to be with- his brother. So it doesn't matter to him that he's in a whole new place, without the alchemic powers he relied on before... he got his brother back. That's all that mattered to him. (And to Al too.)] If it really bugged you , the manga version follows a different storypath (although I don't know how it turns out...) |

Eh, I was pretty underwhelmed with the movie. Not that I had any problam with how it ended, I didn't especially care who ended up where. It was just that it seemed like an unnecessary exercise in tying up loose ends, and nothing more. Along the lines of "Oh, people want some sort of resolution with this character...uh, I dunno, lets just kill them off, or something..." In other words, it was weak.

I thought the ending was pretty good. If you think about it, if every thing had a perfect happy ending then it would all be to predictable. spoiler[ If the boys did return back and they showed everyone all happy. And it was happily ever after, that would be too predictable and would be worse than what they did for this movie.] but if they left it as is, it maqkes a good ending and it wasn't something totally predictable. If you can predict the ending, how good would it be?

Yeah, I think I'm more with the people talking about how it just simply wasn't as good a movie as it could have been instead of being disappointed with the ending. I mean, it really was a very good movie, I just had higher expectations from it is all considering how good the series was, and it just didn't live up to them the way I expected it to. But yes, still a dang good movie.
Anyways, about the ending, I didn't feel at all like there were any loose ends still left over, and came to a pretty darn satisfying end if I do say so myself. spoiler[The whole idea is that Ed and Al ended up together with flesh and blood bodies, it doesn't matter whether or not they're in amestreis. In fact it was that dramatic turn of events that made the ending so enjoyable for me. But the idea is that this is the best they can do, so they just have to accept it, be strong and move forward, no matter what they have to face, just like they've been doing all this time.] Definitely though, I'd have to agree that the manga has better potential than the anime, especially since the alternate storyline, as enjoyable as the anime's was, is just slightly more enjoyable in the manga. |

I really liked the movie ... and there's still the chance of another to continue the story, isn't there?

I have to agree with you. While the spoiler["gang's all together] ending would have been nice. It would have been really predictable. I liked the ending. For me it worked. If you get the chance, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS6hjLcne-Q |

The movie obviously was not made to the caliber of the series. It may just be the simple fact they were so rushed in production. What irks me is some things just aren't satisfactorily sorted out.
For starters:spoiler[Ed's fish bowl helmet in the beginning] This is really trivial, but it still annoys me. In the Japanese commentery the reason is explained, but they probably would have done better to get rid of the whole thing. I'm not necessarily just speaking about RoyxRiza, but spoiler[Mustang doesn't get a proper ending. If they had even just told us he goes Dracma to live with an alchemy-created breed of mountain trolls, I would have been more satisfied.] One more thing:spoiler[Why they could not get back and still shut the gate is not realistically rationalized. They try to give good reasons, but they didn't do a very good job.] Other than that, there is just a general hasty feel to it. You can't exactly say why, but it is just not executed as well as the series. Despite all this, I still think it satisfactorily ends the series. I believe they still achieved a very good movie. As far as the spoiler[Ed and Al reuniting with Al's body back, but stuck in our world] thing, it does not bother me. Sure, for the happiness of the characters we might want it to be different, but it makes sense. spoiler[It wouldn't be "right" for them to get everything back so neatly. They worked hard to correct everything they did wrong, but there is still an ultimate price to pay for stepping into "God's territory." Plus it fits in with the tragic themes of the series.] Overall, I still think the movie is great. Maybe I'm personally biased to like it because I view the series so highly, but hey. They should have introduced spoiler[the alternate world] sooner in the series, and the spoiler[Hitler/Nazi] thing just seems strange at first. But all-in-all, I can forgive. At the very least, it has some of the best music (L'arc) suited for a particular series OP/ED, and a nice soundtrack (especially Let's Dance), good themes, and some of the classic FMA flair that's so appealing. |

I agree. The manga is still running and there's no off topic episode in it so it's worth the wait. |

Personally I really enjoyed the movie a lot. It had a well suited ending, spoiler[Ed and Al were reunited, and if you really didn't like how Ed and Winrey got together that's your problem. I'm not trying to sound mean but in that entire anime when would there have been a chance for romance. If Winrey were to have gone with Ed and Al when they left to go with their teacher that would be a different story but with the homunculi and all of the other things going on I think that Winrey would have just ended up dead. So tell me when would there have been a chance during the entire series or in the movie where there could have been romance. The only time I could think of is at the very end of the movie when Ed ends up going to the other world and if there where to be any romance right before Ed goes to the other world permantely then depending on how you think about it it could either make Winrey happier or sadder. I admit it would have been nice for them to have gotten together but as DuelLadyS said It probably didn't cross Ed's mind. I kind of agree to that but in some episodes I remember Ed and Al talking about the past and they said almost word for word "back then we were still fighting over who will get to marry Winrey". As I was saying before even if Ed did have feelings for her it would have been to dangerous to have her come along unless she would have went with Ed and Al to their teacher then she could have learned alchemy herself where she could have protected her, but there is no way Ed and Al could have protected her through the entire series.] So back to the movie I didn't see any problem with how it ended, and those of you who did see problems get into the manga or just hope they'll start another movie or series.
