I have returned from my two week adventure of the caribbean island known as Trinidad. I'm glad to see the place is still intact however my trip wasn't adventurous as one might think. I really didn't go anywhere this time around which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Relaxing without distraction or obligation for awhile is rather nice.

For numerous months now I planned on using my summer vacation to work on writing and hopefully learn how to play the piano. So the time away gave me lots of time to think about my writing and as it stands my idea for my novel is once again diminished and I'm working towards another idea. Now though that's both a good and bad thing since I'm persuing something much better but leaving something unfinished behind, a new thought came in mind.

Along with my DS Lite, I brought my mp3 player with me and listening to all my music during the plane ride and at my grandparents house (which is where I stayed). I thought of writing song lyrics. A rather ambitious step since I've been struggling as of late with getting a solid poem down on paper yet it's still in my mind and I've been thinking of giving it a shot. Musically it'd probably be within the rap/hip-hop genre since that's the main english-speaking genre of music I listen to. But I want to go in a bit of a different direction in terms of lyrical content.

Many "outsiders" of rap/hip-hop music may label the genre due to what's heard and seen on radio and TV. Thinking it's merely the same thing over and over again with nothing new. And to some extent I feel the same way. Don't get me wrong there's plenty of rap/hip-hop music out there that's worth listening to and always has been. Unfortunately, and especially now they're not getting much recognition on the mainstream.

Instead what we get are songs introducing new dance moves or are simply plain stupid and repetitive. I hate that and it's what I consider disposable music. What I listen to; Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, Eminem,. Clipse among others actually have lyrical quality and depth to their music - and still I've mentioned names that are still better known in the industry.

Now I'm not saying I'm going to be a rapper or anything of the sort but if it comes down to it I do not want anything I write to simply be another crappy song that no one will remember after a couple of years. In a sense, I'd be in it more for the poetic aspects. Who knows what could happen, if I become good with the piano and overall the keyboard I could end up somewhat of a rapper or writer, composer/producer - who knows? Anything could happen in this crazy world. Nonetheless, I'd like to share an idea with you and see what you think.

I am the leader of this unionso you should be aware that I'm a fan of both the series and anime/manga in general. With my writing (since seeing FMA) it's influenced my work a great deal and writing lyrics/poetry is no different. Using names for things, people, places anything or concepts, ideals and such of FMA or anime in general in my writing is sort of my thing. So considering that I'd be writing something towards the rap/hip-hop genre I thought what would work well as a song basis.

And though it's an anime I'm rather unfamiliar with, Ghost in the Shell came in mind. How so? Well, think about it rap/hip-hop music is loaded with gun refernces and such and I'm far from someone who'd use a gun or even rap about owning one or using it unless it had somethign else to it. But this one just really seemed interesting and though I've yet to really get a grasp on it I think it has potential to evolve into something great.

Shell = something of a bullet or grenade, it can also be used as 'empty shell' or more precise a lifeless body. I think you all know what a ghost is so I won't go into that because there's no point in typing it out but regarding my brief thought regarding the meaning of shell. Just think about that. A song titled Ghost in the Shell, what could it mean? Think metaphorically or more literally as such the ghost of someone who's dead. Sure the overall thing may seem dark but I think it's pretty cool and I'd like ot get some opinions on what you think of something surrounding this idea. Of course it's not very detailed and rather hard for my to explain even for myself.

But I think it'd make a great song/poem.

BTW, I was lazy so I copied and pasted this from a post I made on GameSpot, I don't think it's much of a problem since the first part explains my absence here for those two weeks.[/i]

GitS is not about guns, It's about what it means to be human. I suggest you watch it first, before writhing. It's avaiable at any rental store.

This must be the 10th time I've encountered this thread and I still have no idea what you're talking about.

It's a bit of a difficult one. I've since given up on this one but simply I was thinking making the name 'ghost in the shell' mean something else... so turning it into a metaphor different from that of the name in order to translate it into somethign more of a hhip-hop song.
