Seriously... Necromancing this series might destroy its legacy...

Calm down people, I would like to see Goro as a batter or retire and begin as a coach!
There is plenty more this story can give us, you just lack vision, lets wait and see.
I have plenty faith this can be good!

Maybe he'll be a gray-haired, bamboo sword-wielding "oni-coach" in this one.
I saw a lot of the anime but never made it to the ending. That good, eh? Sounds like I might need to remedy that.

Oni-coach? Like in Touch perhaps and then he'll grow an afro...
Maybe the series will have a more proper closure...
But if he just likes to write something about baseball, maybe he can make another title instead of continuing like Adachi's Touch - H2 - Cross Game...

MAJOR is PERFECTION.
Anyway, I can envision taking off directly where it ended, Goro had just started his career in Japan, lets not forget he NEVER EVER played professionally in his country, not as a pitcher thou but as a better due to his injuries having busted both arms...
I can see him battling old known foes... it can be plenty interesting to see him grow as a batter, his kids also never saw his awesome play style and by last episode got a glimpse of how awesome his fatter was instead oh thinking he was a good for nothing...
It would be cool to see him succeed where his father failed as we all know...

I have neither read the manga, nor watched any of the anime (in fact, I only heard the name Major, but haven't looked into it), but by the comments here I'm presuming that the manga is pretty much finished, plot-wise.
If so, it is possible that the (new?, continued?) manga will follow the MC as a coach, or one of his kids [or both: 1st manga's MC as the coach and the new one's MC(s) is/are his kid(s)]
Just spitballing here.

Never could get into this series it was too melodramatic and the lead character was a dick.

The last line of the naime was "We're still at the very beginning of our journey", I think the manga ended with "Baseball is a fun game full of dreams" or something along that line though.
Hopefully it won't be about Goro's comeback as a batter ,since he isn't very interesting. The series was at its best when exploring little league, so I am hoping it's either Izumi challanging the whole "girls don't play baseball" thing (just like Ryoko Kawase), or Daigo.
It could also be about some other character in Major's world like Joe Gibson Jr.'s son.

This makes Togashi's HxH hiatuses seem tame.

No, because HxH isn't ended manga like Major is. It's like next book of Harry Potter series, it can't be called hiatus if series is ended.

Was it really a hiatus? For what I knew the manga simply reached its natural ending.
Anyway, I loved the anime and I hope the new material will be animated as well.

HAH!!!!!?????
That really caught me, I really thought it ended already, well, I'm all for this because this is my all time fave, but what would it be all about? A replica of what happened to Shigeharu Honda, his dad?
I mean Shigeno has a family and whatnot already, yeah maybe his career in Japan. Damn, so there will still be another epic Gibson Jr. battle. Snap, I'm actually excited.

You mean retell the same story with the same characters, but rearrange a couple plot elements so readers won't know exactly what will happen next?
