"Him"?? I kept looking at that photo on the sidebar and saying "It's Carly Simon!"

I think this is a great interview that any aspiring artist can appreciate. The tendency to over produce work is a challenge every artist in every medium has to work through, so I think it's nice to hear the best of the best have the same issues. Also, that confidence of being successful is another great mindset to have as an artist.

He says the new album will be finished soon but he's been saying the same thing for years...

Or he could do what Chiaki Ishikawa did - release a mini-album and release another mini-album 7 months later.

Actually ran into XJapan's music about 2 years ago, honestly I probably only found them because I play guitar and always keep an ear open for new music.
Hm I think I will re-listen to some of there albums today.

Oh hey, this interview actually has some new questions in it! All of Yoshiki's interviews have been almost the same for the last 6 months, but some of the highschool stuff and the questions about what they'd do differently/their musical process/does he want to produce anyone are new! The entire second half of the interview is pretty darn unique!
I met someone at Otakon who got into Yoshiki through the Golden Globes, believe it or not. He's pretty good at putting his name out there.
Thanks for posting this!

Very good article, though it did cover mainly everything I already knew. Yoshiki always says the new album is going to be soon, he said that four years ago and he's saying it now. Don't expect it to be out anytime next year.
Side note: there's a small error in the article. Yoshiki and ToshI come from Tateyama, Chiba not Takeyama, Chiba.

Very interesting interview. I really was into Yoshiki's music in high school. For a while I was kind of depressed and I used music to escape. I am glad the years have gone by and while everything is not perfect, both of us are still here. Glad things are going well for him too. He really is an amazing artist and I can't wait for the new album. Thanks for the interview!

Always makes me smile when I see people even mention her name. Love her. Also, this interview is probably one of the most informative i've seen on this site in awhile. I love Yoshiki...such a great inspiration.

Great interview Mike! I'm glad they had someone with musical knowledge take this, because your questions took interesting turns that seemed to engage Yoshiki, and that always makes for some fun material.
