during righstuf's recent Geneon sale, I ordered the Paranoia Agent soundtrack to complete my 10 for $50 order. So I'm flipping through the cd booklet last night and there's this HUGE disclaimer on the first page that say's
do they honestly believe that we're so immature that we can't understand why a musician records music like that? This is the Paranoia Agent soundtrack for god's sake. Do they honestly believe immature audiences would actually sit through more than a couple of episodes when it was on TV let alone buy the soundtrack? It's not even that bad I would've never noticed without the "warning." This just pissed me off and it gets even worse:
What year is this? I remember coming across these "directions" every once in a while back in the mid 90s when I started buying CDs. This CD was released in America in 2005. Do they honestly think it hasn't sunk in to the American public yet? Most of us buy blank CD-Rs and burn stuff on them and just throw them around our house, our car. I think we can all agree through trial and error that when there's a large scratch on the underside of a CD, IT WON'T WORK. And this isn't the first Geneon CD I own with this message, it's plastered over the entire lower half of the first two FLCL soundtracks (which look identical btw). I don't know how they handled their more recent soundtrack releases but I can't help but feel like they think I'm an idiot. |

you would be amazed at how many idiots are out there. the sound thing is actually pretty justified, as there are people who have bought bootlegs without knowing it before, and might assume they are getting burned. it's simply a way to avoid going into court.

I guess they think its better to be too careful. I can just imagine all the fans who might write in saying
"lik omgs wtfs up wif my CD" and getting all upset about it. Also Susumu Hirasawa is kinda known for doing weird things with his recordings, so maybe the note was justified. There's a marked difference between what you hear on TV speakers while watching an anime and what you can hear through headphones if you're really paying attention. |

Don't get all huffy over this. Remember that McDonald's was sued over hot coffee because the cup didn't have the "Caution: May be hot" disclaimer.
Besides that, while you maybe accustomed to storing and handling CDs, there are some who aren't; most likely they've never bought a CD before and would need some direction. Bottom line: ignore it. |

I bought that CD too. That track wasn't even the most questionable sounding track...other tracks had far more "low quality" noises but oh well.
Still, other Geneon domestic releases actually HAVE been screwed up badly, for example the Lunar Legend Tsukihime OST1 (not the OST2) is filled with terrible pops throughout that are not present on the Japanese version of the same CD. |

At this point, there's literally not a damn person on the face of the planet over the age of 5 who's never held a CD before. I can go with the "they're just covering their asses" argument, but with something like that, they're just questioning the person's intelligence. |

Just because they've held a CD doesn't mean they know the proper way to care for it. Now, obviously the disclaimers don't apply to most people, and if that's you then just ignore it.

Actually there was the hot pickle lady lawsuit also. She got thrown out but the hot coffee lady, not to be confused with the hot coffee mod in San Andreas, actually won her case. So Sad. Just thought I'd throw that out there, now on to the actual topic. Dragon is quit right about the handling issue. I worked at a Sam Goody/Sun Coast and I can attest to the lack of care many people show their cds and dvds. Some through ignorance but many through simple lack of knowledge on proper storage and cleaning techniques. Plus disclaimers are there to prevent that one jackass from suing for totally ignorant reasons just to make a buck. If they're such a problem blame the stupid people that make them a necessity and not the companies. Ignoring it is the best option really.
Most of the world doesn't live as well as we do in America buddy. Probably a good 75% of all of Africa hasn't held or listened to a cd ever. That's just that one continent. I really suggest you do some more studying about the world you live in before making ignorant and completely factless comments like that. |

I don't know why people are getting upset with instructions. I don't even know why an intelligent person would be offended if someone offered them advice, even if they already know the advice! It's just a gentle reminder.
