Anyone remember Legend of the four kings? I think this was the first anime i ever watched on Channel 4 in the UK. Anyone else remember this or what your first anime was?
Just had a brane wave i remeber seeing battle of the planets years before... it just fazed in after a pint of cider. That and Starfeet the puppet show!

Sometimes I can't even remember what I had for breakfast from the day before. But I think the first anime I've seen must've been digimon or pokemon. I've never even heard of the Legend of the four kings so I guess I just wasn't alive at the time or pretty young. Heck I just might have forgotten it like all of my families birthdays except for my own course. I don't plan to forget that until I'm in at least my late 30's. But yeah if I have seen the show I don't remember it.

The first anime series I watched was Candy Candy in the early 80s. Now, don't try to guess my age! I was very little then... 100+ episodes tv series. This series was never translated into English dialogue and currently there is a legal battle raging between the author and artist for copyright ownership of Candy. Merchandise has been withdrawn from the market except a recently Korean release of the title on DVD and a OST released by a French company. It's been a long time but there are still many Candy fans worldwide and the title is still popular in Japan!
I think this title influenced me greatly as a little girl because I learnt to be strong, independent, thankful, contented and cheerful like Candy.
I am disappointed that fans make such a big issue over the ending of Candy Candy just because she did not live happily ever after with the man whom fans thought is a good suiter for her. This title is a perfect example of how a 100+ epsiode classic turns into nothing more than a failed romantic series. Some fans put too much emphasis on the failed relationship. Surely, there must be something more than romance in Candy Candy in all those episodes!! Candy is only 12-15 years old, she is too young to marry a prince charming. I prefer that young fans see how Candy coped with the failed relationship and learn from that.

My first exposure to anime came in 1979, when I watched Chodenji Machine Voltes V on Hong Kong TV. It was completely different to any cartoon that I had seen in the UK (it had a storyline for a start), & I was utterly entralled by the giant combining robots, the alien monsters, & the big explosions & battles. My love of anime is down to this particular show.

I saw that series back in the early 80's too, dubbed into Cantonese. Never did see how the series ended but I vividly remember the OP theme to this day.
EDIT: @Hokum - I remember watching the Legend of the Four Kings on late night British TV too, & I thought the series was dire. The dub did not help matters, but I really didn't like the four main characters who were so cardboard & wooden that they made me want to tear my hair out.

No, but speaking of oldies you just watched for the first time, I did recently see Green Legend Ran, which I found to be quite good. I saw bits and pieces of it way back on the Sci-fi Channel many years ago, and it was good to finally get the whole story.

The first anime that I actually watched was probably Star Blazers, I think. id din't know it was anime way back then but I think that was the actual first anime I ever watched. That, or Voltron maybe. The first anime I watched that I knew was anime was Cartoon network's Anime Invasion way back when the first got started. They played a few movies LATE at night. I got to watch project A-Ko and Vampire Hunter D. They both blew my mind away.

Ahhhh I remember it like it was yesterday.... brings back such nostalgic memories.
My first anime was Saint Seiya (Caballeros del Zodiaco from where I'm from) , and I didn't even know it was anime at the time (i was around 9), I just thought it was a very interesting show and very diferent from all the other cartoons I had seen so I was completly hooked.
After Saint Seiya I watched Dragon Ball, but I didn't start watching anime seriously until last year.

The first anime I watched was the awesome The Mysterious Cities of Gold, in my case it was the french version called Les Mystérieuses Cités d'Or. I watched that in the early 90's, and I got totally hooked.
I'm sure quite a few of you remember how awesome that series was . Such an old masterpiece. Ahhh, the memories. I have a lot of my friends who aren't into anime that remember having watched it, and they all enjoyed it a lot.

I bet you're Latin American or Spanish by the sounds of that. I saw Saint Seiya too when I was little, but not before Captain Tsubasa (Supercampeones)

I've never heard of that anime however the first anime I saw was Sailor Moon. Long long ago, when I was probably 5 or 6 years old I used to watch Sailor Moon. More recently, and perhaps more common for those who're my age - it'd be Pokemon, quickly followed by Dragon Ball Z. Since then my knowledge and viewing of anime have increased a great deal thanks to the growing anime content in Canada.

I'm not sure but I think there's already a thread for this..
Anyway, I'm not sure what my first anime was, since when I first started to watch anime, I didn't know I was watching anime (I hope that made sense ). The first ones I can remember is Princess Sarah and Cedie, since I'm pretty sure I watched sentai series more than anime back then, but I think I watched Voltes 5 when I was about 3 or something.
I also vaguely remember watching series such as Ranma 1/2 and Yu Yu Hakusho after. Then came the anime explosion in the Philippines, when I was "enlightened" and realized I've been watching anime for a long time already.

I remember watching things like Transformers, Astro Boy, etc as a kid without realising they were "Anime".
The first thing I conciously watched as anime was the movie Howls Moving Castle, my brother and I went to the cinema to watch it and thought it was quite good.
A short time later as massive Final Fantasy fans, he bought Final Fantasy: Unlimited, and, at the advice of a friend, Azumanga Diaoh! He pestered me until I had watched them both, got hooked like a big mouth bass and the rest, as they say, is history!
