am i the only one that thinks SB should NOT put nana out of magazine. i do support them mixing it up now and then to bring more titles to shores but being that nana is the most loved and popular i dont really understand it.

I think it's more of a marketing decision and also because of Nana's growing "mature" content. Nana is already at 16+ volumes in Japan, so Viz wants to get Nana GN's out faster (we're only on volume..6, I think?). Plus, as they said in the mag, Nana is getting a new "M" mature rating at Volume 8, so they might of deemed some things inappropiate to publish in SB.

Nana has already had quite a bit of mature content (though not what I would call graphic). I wonder what happens that would make them go so far as to give it a mature rating?
Shojo Beat is marketing, plain and simple. Pulling Nana will encourage the consumers to buy both. Honey & Clover is a pretty enticing idea. Personally, I'll wait for the GNs.

It already has the "Mature Content" label and is shrinkwrapped. I'm surprised it wasn't rated M already.
In any case, I'm surprised that they are taking it out of the magazine (which I read), but I'll be happy to get the GNs quicker.

I followed NANA since the first issue of Shojo Beat until Takumi asks Hachi to meet up with him (in the middle of traffic!). (That is, it was my friend's SB.) It was my favorite title in the magazine. I feel kind of bad saying this as I don't have my own subscription (or pick it up in stores), but it's not really a loss for me. Only because my source for Nana went off to college last year, so I've really been behind. If I did read the magazine every month, I would definitely regret it. Then again, I guess the "Mature" rating change would make sense...

It is? That's funny, none of the Nana GN's are shrinkwrapped at my local Barnes and Noble or Borders. I assumed Nana was T+ until now.

Vol. 5 was the first Nana to be shrinkwrapped. Either your B&N and Borders has a horrible problem with lazy good for nothing customers ripping off the wrap, or they haven't stocked past Vol. 4.

I think the title removal is dumb regardless. I mean, why pay for a magazine that only gives you part of the series when you'll just have to go buy GNs of it anyway? I'm dropping SB and SJ when my subscriptions run out and buying a lot of GNs...

I think it makes some sense if they think that other titles like Absolute Boyfriend and Vampire Game are enough to continue selling the magazine. Removing Nana from the magazine forces people to buy the graphic novels to continue reading it, so removing it should increase the sales of the GNs.

When I read this, I was pretty pissed. The SB mag lineup is already so poor, that it's just stupid to take the BEST series (of the entire SB line) out of the magazine. Yes, Honey and Clover will be wonderful, too. But they should have taken something like Crimson Hero out instead, which is nearly over anyway. Or Absolute Boyfriend (which sucks) and all the Watase fans would have bought the GNs anyway. Or just waited till the YumeKira run ended. It only has like 2 months left anyway. But now I have to catch up on all the Nana releases. I fail to understand their logic when they obviously have many other options. And if they're taking out 2 series, and replacing 1......does that mean less series in the magazine now? Even less to be excited about.

As someone who doesn't read (or buy) SB, this is good news. One of the reasons I haven't bought NANA is because of the slow release dates of the graphic novels. Despite that, I do feel this is a loss for the magazine. NANA and Vampire Knight (as well as some of the early chapters of Absolute Boyfriend) were the only titles I was mildly interested in... now I definitely won't be picking up the magazine.

It depends on why you buy the magazine. I buy SB in order to sample a lot of different series and then I buy the GNs for the ones I really like. Thus I am actually happy that NANA is coming out of serialization because it means more GNs will be available faster (which is good since the Japanese release is at vol 17 I believe). I also get to read manga that I wouldn't otherwise, like Crimson Hero which I enjoy well enough at times but not enough that I would ever buy it serialized.
Also, remember that they are replacing it with Honey & Clover, which is a fairly huge title which should draw in more people and keep a lot of the current subscribers happy.

Uhh no there are replacing both titles they are taking out.
Quote: | Haruka, an abbreviation for the full Japanese title Harukanaru Toki no Naka de, will replace another founding title, Baby & Me, after October. Haruka is based on a hit fantasy dating simulation game for girls that also inspired several television, video, and theatrical anime projects. |

NANA's getting an M rating? That seems a little excessive. I mean, I'm glad that Viz isn't scissor-happy like they used to be, but that doesn't really seem appropriate. Almost cheapens the rating itself.

I agree, though only certain volumes seem to have the M rating and so I'd have to be reminded what happened in the particular volume, because there are a few events that I could see pushing it up there, for example when Takumi pretty much rapes Hachi while she's pregnant.. There also is some situations concerning drug use later which might warrant it too, though the English release isn't anywhere near those chapters yet.
