Technically, Ah! My Goddess has been in publication for 26 years. While the final chapter gets released this month, it will have been four months shy of 26 years. Keep note that the goddesses actually made their first appearance in a strip for You're Under Arrest, prior to the publication of Aa! Megamisama.

firefly: Is it like a cameo, or do they get their own story?

It was actually Miyuki dressed like a goddess, which was the prototype for Belldandy, from what I recall. I could be wrong. Paradise Residence is cute and has great character designs. (The main character looks like Gemini from Sakura Wars V.) I look forward to seeing what Fujishima-sensei does with it when he is actually giving it priority. There was also a light novel published, with Fujishima-sensei doing the illustrations. |

Hope someone picks this up, because I naturally like anything Kousuke Fujishima does. He has a real way of writing stories that can be both about nothing and something at once and keep a very nice charm all throughout.

First, Paradise Residence has already seen the first eight chapters of the manga series published in Good Afternoon. This was something that was not included in the ANN article. Some of us have been following Mr. Fujishima's career ever since his work on the You're Under Arrest manga series. Personally, I've been following Mr. Fujishima ever since Dark Horse published the very first Oh My Goddess manga series with its 'comic book format' #1 issue back in 1994, back when Studio Proteus brought the manga to Dark Horse.
Second, Dark Horse is likely going to wait until more chapters of the manga series have been published. They generally like to stay at least 6 months to a year behind the manga publishing schedule in Japan. The Oh My Goddess manga volumes remain 12 months behind Kodansha's publishing schedule. Note that Dark Horse Comic's release for Oh My Goddess 46 will have been published 11-12 months after Kodansha's release of volume 46 in Japan. I've compiled a list of official release dates (bare in mind that these are the most recent releases for volumes 44-46: Oh My Goddess! Volume 44 Release Date (K): April 23, 2012 Release Date (D): April 10, 2013 Oh My Goddess! Volume 45 Release Date (K): November 22, 2012 Release Date (D): November 20, 2013 Oh My Goddess! Volume 46 Release Date (K): August 23, 2013 Release Date (D): August 06, 2014 If you consider where Volumes 47 and 48 are at, volume 47 will be released by Dark Horse on March 2015 while volume 48 will be released on July 2015. If you apply the same logic to Residence Paradise, Dark Horse, if they acquire the rights to the Paradise Residence manga series, will bide their time until Kodansha has published another 6-12 chapters of the manga series. |

firefly: The only reason Dark Horse had such a huge gap between volume releases was because the series was still ongoing. But I wouldn't be surprised if 47 comes out before the end of the year. They might try to do something special with 48, though.

Both Kōdansha Book Club and Amazon Japan seem not to list Volume 1 of the tankōbon of the Paradise Residence manga. The ANN staffer may have thought that this book was Volume 1 of the Paradise Residence manga, but actually it is the Paradise Residence light novel. It is better for him/her to see the dust jacket say, '著 野梨原花南 原作・イラスト 藤島康介 講談社ラノベ文庫.' |

All the chapters of Paradise Residence published so far are less than 50 pages, that's not even half the usual pages in a tankoubon. The book of Paradise Residence published in 2011 was actually a light novel, just as hyojodoji said. I bought that book, by the way.

First, eight chapters of the manga series have already been published by Kodansha. What many manga fans keep forgetting is that only about eight pages were produced for each chapter because Fujishima-san was also working on Ah! My Goddess as well as other anime and videogame related projects.
Mr. Fujishima is a highly sought after character designer for many videogames. Second, the Residence Paradise tankouban is available through Amazon Japan. You simply need to stop using "English" search terms. Doing a simple search to discover the original katakana and kanji titles for the manga series will produce the original name of the series: パラダイス レジデンス. If you take that and enter it as a search term on Amazon Japan, you get the following product order link: http://www.amazon.co.jp/パラダイスレジデンス1-講談社ラノベ文庫-野梨原-花南/dp/4063752011/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398133788&sr=8-1&keywords=パラダイス+レジデンス |

I would think that there would be a better chance of Kōdansha choosing to self-publish any English translation, or use a service like Crunchyroll Manga, which has a relationship with Kōdansha, or their own MangaBox app. Dark Horse had Oh! My Goddess before Kōdansha moved into the English language publishing business.

zensunni, won't happen. Dark Horse has had a long, positive relationship with Kodansha, going back as far as the early 90's. Matter of fact, they were initially in partnership with Studio Proteus back before Dark Horse came into the manga scene, back when Studio Proteus had been producing manga under the Eclipse International banner, during the mid to late 80's.
Yeah, some of us have been collecting manga ever since the first translated manga was produced by Studio Proteus/Eclipse International and Marvel/Epic. At any rate, Crunchyroll is the last company that Kodansha would turn to. If anything, they would probably release it under their Kodansha America line of manga titles. |
