Glad to hear that the new film is opening this year. I wished a few details of the story have been given. Is it going to be a prequel, a sequel? I hope the film keeps up with the quality of the 2199 series, and the BD release is also English subtitled.

And how in the heck are they going to make a compilation film of the whole series? That would have to be at a minimum of 3 hours long. I am NOT looking forward to the compilation film.

It'll probably be like the first theatrical Yamato movie, which was also a compilation movie of the original series.

That is, it'll basically be a "best of" movie that's ultimately disappointing compared to the series.

I hope this new move has the White Comet Empire!

It seems to me that they were setting up the Comet Empire, having Gideon show up at the start, and having Lysis fighting what is obviously Comet Empire ships before being sent to lead the Milky Way forces.

Definitely looking forward to this :3

I guess I'll expect BD to come sometimes during Spring though.

So is this going to be a rehash movie or someone of a new adventure they didn't explore during the series's run?

If Gatlantis (the Comet Empire) make an appearance in the movie, it won't be as the primary antagonist or the focus of the story. For those expecting this movie to be a reboot of Farewell to Space Battlship Yamato: In the Name of Love, let me clarify right now that it won't be.

Yutaka Izubuchi has gone on record as stating:

Quote:
As I mentioned in a previous Yamatalk [fan events held after a theatrical screening of each chapter movie of the series], there is a reason Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is in the title. In other words, it is definitely a story of the trip to Iscandar, taking place in the year 2199.

Read the full interview here (search for the text "February 28:" and it will take you to the start of the relevant section). This interview came from the official Yamato Fan Club's Ship's Journal publication issue #6.

In any case, I know where I'll be on December 6 - at the Shinjuku Piccadilly Theatre in Tokyo.

Aw, I want them to use the "Great Love" musical theme from Farewell Yamato.

You never know, if they do remake the Yamato 2 TV series down the track, they may incorporate it into that. 2199 did source some of its music from other chapters of the Yamato saga than the original series (notably the [spoiler]Comet Empire Disco theme from the climactic battle episode in Yamato 2.

Sorry, I can't be bothered to care what their Japanese names are.

You mean the characters' actual, real names? Yeah, I guess that's a minor detail. Rolling Eyes

The ones I used are real to me. Sorry you don't agree, but again, I can't be bothered to care.

Though Space Battleship Yamato 2199 already got screened in theaters before, I am actually open to idea of the planned Space Battleship Yamato 2199 compilatiion film, and here's hoping a R1 DVD and theatrical release for it gets planned soon as it's likely that not everyone wants to spend 34$ on one DVD containing just a portion of the story when some may want to get all the key parts of the plot in one DVD at one time.

Now lets see. Seems like 3 SBY movies are currently being planned at this moment: this year's Yamato 2199 compilation film, the Yamato 2199 sequel film, and of course Skydance Production's live-action Space Battleship Yamato film (though to be based specifically on the Americanzied "Star Blazers" dub of the original SBY as opposed to the anime's original Japanese edition). Definetly looking forward to all of them.

I think the movie will be a sequel to the tv series. And maybe it will function as a teaser prequel to the second season (whenever that gets made). Absolutely looking forward to watching it.

The same way SHAFT managed to get 2 compilation movies out of a 13 episode series. The mantra is always the same, it has been the same since the 1970s; you have seen the tv series you can jump the compilation movie with no problem.
Don't worry nobody is putting a gun on your head to make you suffer the shame of viewing a compilation movie angelmcazares. Twisted Evil
