Uh...yeah. What the hell made you think it was dead?
Seriously the game has only been out for a year.

I really don't get why the always have to refer to it as Skullgirls Encore, even if they had to release the game under a new name because of whatever the hell happened with the distributor. What's stopping everyone else from using the shorthand?

@Mister Ryan Andrews
@Chagen 46
And only 1 of the 5 crowdfunded DLC characters is even out yet, with Big Band almost done. SkullGirls will stick around, and continue to see new content, for quite some time.

Because it's a relatively large update in terms of how it changes the mechanics. Other updates were called "Slightly Different Edition" and "More Different Edition".

Because that's the title of the game now. I suppose they don;t have to, but in an article like this its just proper news-reporter etiquette to use the actual title of something, rather than a shorthand.

Correction!
Skullgirl has been out around TWO years now.
I've had the game since the original release date...
And this is a very creative feature worth buying a DLC character for!
In principle, I STILL don't like DLC much -- I hate the idea of virtual ownership versus having games, music, and movie on physical disc media; -- but I'll swallow my bile and get this when it's available on my game system.
I doubt I'll buy Skullgirls for PC any time soon...

The fans funded this DLC though, so it's not like they did it as a cash-in.

I don't like Big Band all that much. He is a big easy target and he attacks above the opponent's head. I will still get him when the DLC comes out since it's free for the first month.

I'd like to add on to the "DLC" bit: originally, their Indiegogo/Squigly campaign was just so that they could finish Squigly, who was already slated for being put into the game. Lab Zero had to resort to crowdfunding because the developer they belonged to had to drop them after a lawsuit.
So, yeah, we probably would have had to pay for Squigly down the line, but as it stands, we're getting Squigly, Big Band, Eliza, Beowulf and Robo-Fortune because fans funded their development--just as V1cious said.

Anime themes, I could see, but Leroy Anderson just comes off as delicious sarcasm.

Begging people for money seems like a lot more of a cash in than a company using their own resources to make something then sell it.

Easier said than done. How do you expect people to make a living for the several months required to work on one character? Or pay voice actors? Or pay for distribution costs?
