In the last couple weeks I've been looking for ways to protect my dvd's and found a couple different options.

They are cheap and you get a lot so I'm going to try them out. I'm also thinking about getting a shrink wrap kit to wrap my bigger box sets. The cheapest kit I've found is $80 so I'm going to hold off on getting it. Anyone else use or know any other products? |

Thanks for posting that link. I'll be purchasing some for my more rare and out of print DVDs, I'm a condition freak.
If anyone else has some good ideas to protect collections please post in here. |

Meh - I live alone, no pets, no smoke, constantly clean/vacuum/dust, and all my blu rays/DVDs are carefully shelved in a climate controlled environment, so I have no worries they'll remain intact and will not deteriorate in the slightest amid my living conditions. Those would just clutter things up and ruin my compulsively symmetrical feng shui.

I live alone and all that stuff to but a lot of the box sets are still to easily damaged for my liking. Like my SAO Blu-rays.

To watch it? A big spool of shrink wrap is cheap. So if I want to watch it again I just open it back up then shrink wrap it when I'm done. Whats expensive is finding a good sealer and heat gun. I could use a blow dryer but it doesn't get as good look to the wrap. |

The last place I lived in would get incredibly dusty. I used to dust an insane amount. Due to that as a habit I tend to keep my box sets in the shrink wrap and just cut out the openings for removing the DVDs/BDs. I also tend to lift the set off the shelf as opposed to pull/drag it off to minimize wear on the bottoms. However, wrapping or sealing DVD singles seems unnecessary to me. Its mostly plastic and fairly durable, plus I don't live in dust filled environment anymore.

I wouldn't like that at all. I like playing with my toys — picking a box up and taking out the booklet to flick through on a whim, etc.
I don't care if my things experience normal wear and tear through being loved. (Though if I dropped something on a corner by accident or something, of course that would ruin my day!) |

But for some people taking care of their toys is part of loving them. Some people never wash their cars until they can't see out the front window, while others wash and wax their cars every weekend. |

Can't agree more. After losing in an accident some books that were sentimental to me, I just don't feel like taking a lax opinion in keeping my things nice. |

I certainly wasn't saying my attitude is superior, and that yours is anal, or anything like that. I just like to have my things accessible to handle at a moment's notice, browsing through my favourite things as the fancy takes me.

I certainly didn't take what you said as meaning something bad, it makes perfect sense to me that people use and handle their property differently. And I'm not saying that one way is superior to another. I was just expanding on the reasons why one might behave in a particular way. |

how about poly bags? If you find a bag large enough, you simply slip the bag in and tape the top. The largest is 12 x 20, which, that should be large enough. They'll be long enough for NISA sets and hopefully wide enough for like those older DVD art box sets Funimation & ADV used to sale ( I hope they are, they don't come any larger) I've seen some Japanese anime sets, where they have them wrapped in plastic and they're tapped up on top (maybe the person that took the picture of them did it), but it seems easier and cheaper then buying a shrink wrap machine. Plus, the poly bags would have a thicker plastic to protect. |

Two many sizes for that to be a viable options without having excess plastic. That's why I'm testing the plastic envelopes before I get a bunch. If theirs to much excess plastic it won't fit on shelves or boxes well.
I've been trying to find this plastic box I got as filler in a artbox . Fits 3 dvd's perfectly but I can't find anywhere to buy them at. |
