. . .And it's about time, too!
To my surprise, the local Best Buy actually had it in stock on the release day, as well as Shakugan no Shana vol. 4. (The local Best Buys do not have a good reputation for having titles out on their release dates.) I got the box, and it looks very nice. Quite sturdy and elegant, with all sorts of snapshot-like pictures lining the inside. The front has a recessed panorama of Fuka Academy backing a cell depicting most of the HiME (spoiler[Akira, the nun, and one other aren't shown]) plus key supporting cast girls, so it's kind of a spoiler for those who haven't seen the later volumes. It has enough room for all seven DVDs, although it's clearly designed to sit horizontally rather than vertically on your shelf. Still, this is a box I'd recommend for any fan of the series. It's worth the extra cost. Review on the DVD itself will be forthcoming via normal posting channels. |

the other HiME not appearing on the box is spoiler[Fumi, but Mashiro is on there ] but other than that, this box is very beautiful and it stands with Basilisk's box as being the best looking boxes on my shelf.
That "director's cut" episode only has extra footage at the very end of it, adding more to that final montage of how things are after the climax. As for the ending itself, well, I already commented on it in the "What are you watching?" thread, I'll just say that I felt it fit this series. Oh, and Key, my local Best Buy is also notorious for never having anime volumes on their release date. However, one thing I started trying was the "store pick-up" option on their website, and it has worked 2 out of 2 times so far. You don't pay shipping, and I still got the volumes I purchased on their release date. THe weird thing is, I went to the store itself looking for Utawarerumono vol 2, didn't see it on the shelf, went home, ordered it as store pick up, and later on that same day it was ready to be picked up. The same thing happened with Coyote Ragtime vol 2, ordered it the day of its realease, and it was there that same day, and I'm going to test it again today for Moonphase vol 5. So I'd suggest the online "store pick-up" when it comes to Best Buy. |

I have been waiting for this, and have frequently been checking Netflix for it as this is how I was seeing it, from renting from them. They still have it listed as unknown when they will get it. I admit, I am concerned, they don't usually leave an anime fan hanging for later volumns, however, usually well in advance there is a release by ??/?? date listed and this one has none. This series isn't one I want to purchase, but I still want to finish. I hope I am able to get soon.

I'm so getting the one with the box It'll be much better than the box with the T-shirt!!!
Though, I like wearing the T-shirt that says "Fuka" on it (which, if said improperly, sounds like a swear word) |

I saw it like two weeks ago at Fry's... Tried to buy it but they said they couldn't sell it to me because it wasn't supposed to be released yet... I went last week and they put it back up on the shelf. >_> I suppose I'll get it this week...

At least your Best Buy has My-Hime. The one near where I live has Inu Yasha, some volumes of Ghost in the shell (never those I need), a few of the lastest Fullmetal Alchemist and maybe Gundam, DBZ and a few others, is all.
But not too far away there's a store specialized in anime, they usually have DVDs in the month after at most, so I should not complain... As for the Hime spoilers, I had guessed spoiler[the nun, but not Akira], and I think I know the other... I'll see soon! Can't wait! |

Since Key mentioned getting the new box, I must ask- despite not being designed to, could one set the box vertically without the lid falling off? My whole storage setup is based around vertical, so whether or not I cna flip it is a big deal.
Also... the pic on the front, is it 'flat'? It's often looked to me to be like one of those fake 3D motion cards, to make the school look farther in the background. Are there any other pictures on the outside but that one? |

I just found out that my copy (w/box version, of course) shipped out today. If I'm lucky, I'll have it on my shelf by the end of the week.

I find this kind of strange. DVD Pacific shipped mine out on Mar. 23, and I haven't seen it yet, or heard that it has (anything I order is shipped to my home address in Alexandria). Eight business days is on the long end based on past experience. I wonder if the upcoming Easter holiday has slowed down USPS a bit...
I don't know if this will answer your question completely, but I found a set of pictures that The Great Bear from AoD posted. Still life is no substitution for real life, but the image on the front of the box has a 3-D feel to it: http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/784/hime1hf6.jpg Image on the rear of the box: http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/6448/hime2zo5.jpg Source post: http://www.animeondvd.com/forum/showpost.php?post/398704/ |

Thanks for the pictures NGE1113. A definite improvement over vol.1...although that wasn't hard to do. It's always nice when a company listens to it's fans and does something like this. Bravo Bandai!
Although my nod for best art box probably goes to Trinity Blood. I bought mine at deepdiscount.com and they have it being released tomorrow. Strange because [This URL is a known Bootlegging website] has had it in stock for two weeks now. |

The background is recessed, while the characters look like they're painted on a cel and stuck to the inside of the plastic making up the wiindow of the box. I tested the box, and it seems to stand up fine vertically without the lid falling off. However, it definitely looks weird that way. |

I got my box from them as well, & it arrived from the US to the UK on the 27th March, well over a week early from the official release date. Out of all the boxes I've seen, this is by far the nicest one I've seen for an anime series. It's very unique looking & the box itself is robust, unlike the flimsy box that originally came with the volume 1 of the R1 release.
It looked too weird stood up vertically for my tastes, so I've displayed mine horizontally; http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h211/EVA_fiend/My-HiME-box.gif It looks odd next to all the other DVDs that are stood vertically, but the box is so cool that I'll forgive it's oddities, heh. Oh, & the last three episodes were awesome too! Can't wait for My-Otome to start as I need my ShizNat fix. |

Setting the box in its proper horizontal position took up too much space on my already-crowded DVD racks, so I'm just displaying it on a separate shelf. It's much too good a box to not display at all.
The final three eps are a fun conclusion to one of the more fun series out there, BTW, and I can confirm that the "Director's Cut" version of the final episode only adds an additional 1.5 minutes in a single block near the very end. It's worth watching, though, because those are some neat scenes. |

I actually prefer the 'Directror's Cut' ending to the one shown in the original episode; the skits are more light-hearted & very amusing, spoiler[especially the one where Shizuru walks in on Natsuki in the bathroom; I love Natsuki's reaction, it's priceless! ] |
