Does anyone else think VIZ will eventually give One Piece and Naruto the same treatement as Yu-Gi-Oh, Dragon Ball Z, and Rurouni Kenshin? I say this because with those manga's the anime was way ahead of them and keeping the manga at its normal pace could be a money problem. It made sense with Rurouni Kenshin because the anime was very far along here and if VIZ originally kept it at its 2,3, or 4 month realese (i dont remember how it originally was) then it would still be going and this many years after the anime was done it might cause people to not buy it. With Dragon Ball Z it made sense because with the rise in Naruto and One Piece there was no need to milk it anymore by publishing the Buu saga monthly. Yu-Gi-Oh really made the most sense out of the 3 because of how far we got in the anime in just 4 years. If VIZ didn't skip to
Millennium World and kept continuing with Yu-Gi-Oh duelist in shonen jump then we would only be on vol 4 of duelist which is still at duelist Kingdom. So VIZ probably realized draging out yu gi oh in shonen jump for a few more years while everyone knew what would happen wouldn't be a good idea.

So could this happen to One Piece and Naruto. The One Piece anime has gotten a lot further then the manga here already and with the chance of another company picking it up it could get even further. By the anime getting so further ahead of the manga it could maybe cause sales to drop because the anime is so far ahead. With Naruto the anime is not that much further head of the manga yet but in time it will be. I can't see One Piece and Naruto getting monthly realeses since they are still coming out in Japan but with the anime getting much further ahead it might be possible for VIZ to not want the manga to become to far behind and wanting it to keep up with the anime so they would realese a new volume every 2 months. If they did give these a bi-monthly realese they would either have to take it out of shonen jump and put 2 new manga's in which could also cause sales to drop, or do what I think would be a cooler idea and put more chapters in each issue of shonen jump so they could realese a new graphic novel every 2 months. Also when the manga gets to the story of Naruto Shippuden will they start over with vol 1 and rename the manga Naruto Shippuden?

I don't think they'll change the release rate. There really is no need to. Plus if they're seralized in the US version of SJ why would they just take out two popular titles?

Why would they? The manga after the time skip isn't called Naruto Shippuden, it's usually just called Part 2 (unless I missed something).

The Saiyan/Vegeta till the end of the Dragonball Manga was released stateside as Dragonball Z, even though that was the name of the Anime, the entirety of it, Manga wise, in Japan, was still called Dragonball.

But whether it happens or not is still up in the air/years away from finding out.

I think it's possible Viz will take Naruto out of the magazine someday and release it faster, but I wouldn't expect that for a long time, if at all. But if they do, I don't expect them to change the title, though it is possible considering DBZ. And they did something similar with YuGiOh. Honestly, its impossible to say with any degree of certainty how they will handle that. We'll just have to wait and see in a few years.

One Piece has a much better chance, I think, of someday getting dropped from the magazine since the anime never took off here and thus doesn't have an anime increasing its popularity. However, I think the manga is at least decently popular, so I don't expect it to get removed anytime soon.

I know taking the 2 best titles from SJ wouldn't be the best thing but if the anime gets too far ahead then every manga in SJ besides Hikaru no Go will be way behind the anime and that could be trouble. My suggestion would be to include at least 4 chapters a month since shonen jump comes out every week in japan and 4 weeks to a month so that would fit perfect and viz could realese tankoban faster.

Because like Steventheeunuch said from Dragon Ball 17 onward it was called Dragon Ball Z 1 and with Yu Gi Oh we have Yu-Gi-Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh duelist, and Yu-Gi-Oh Millennium World. So I might see VIZ renaming the Naruto manga Naruto:Shippuden when we get there.

I think they did that with Dragonball mainly for marketing reasons though. At the time people didn't want to buy manga series that were over 40 volumes long, but they didn't mind buying 2 connected series that were each shorter. Also, it helped reach a larger market that way. So that those who were first familiar with DBZ as opposed to DB could read the manga starting at that part. But with Naruto...There are no other benefits that I see them getting out of changing the title. Naruto is VERY well established and probably sells more than DB or DBZ ever did, stateside anyway.

Besides, I doubt they would take it out of the magazine...I think Naruto helped revive Shonen Jump. If they did anything, they would probably just put more chapters in the magazine. I honestly don't see them removing it, even in the not so distant future.

That probably won't happen. Why hurry to break the beak of the Naruto cash-cow when one can milk it for a larger gross over a period of several years? Naruto's presence in the SJ magazine is the whole selling point of the publication right now; drop it and the sales of the other manga will fall as well. SJ's target audience is youngsters and those who lack the time to browse bookstores for new manga; how else would something weird (but good) like, ehh, Hikaru no Go get attention?

It's one of the less popular SJ manga right now, but VIZ Media won't drop it unless the sales become cancerous. Why? Shueisha is putting heavy pressure on VIZ Media and Eiichiro Oda to make OP a success, so giving up on it is like a mother abandoning her dreams of having her first-born darling child become President of the United States; the concerns for the title are not purely economic.

Considering the current OP crisis in Japan, there's only all the more pressure to "stand strong" in America. if OP DOES get dropped, though, it'll go the route of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and not get an accelerated publication, but a gradually slower one until the title stops getting produced altogether.

I do NOT think Naruto will be dropped. Hikaru-no-Go is more likely to be dropped--how many fans could THAT one have? (FYI, I like it, so no offense). If they take out Naruto, then they're losing a massive attraction to buying the magazine. Remember--a bunch of the things that come out in the Manga on those months also come out in the Magazine.

One Piece is also more likely to be dropped. On the other hand, One Piece is more popular in Japan...
