Ah , the Cinderella playWasn't she crying with that fanboy? After a while her obsession with Yuki became a bit annoying (until she finally matured). I often wonder how I would treat a real life Motoko. . .could I ignore her or try to tell her that there's more to life than obsessing over a boy. Of course, I don't think real life teens go THAT far into classmate fandom . It's just sad to see how vicious, absurd and ill-intentioned "loving someone" can be.

I dont think I've ever seen anyone become that obsessed with a classmate, but you what the term for them is when they decide to take it a step further. I'm interested to try and figure out what happened to her after her graduation. Do you think that it may be possible that she ended up hooking up with Nao? If so, I'd love to think of what their kids would look like

Angry. Very angry looking . I think Motoko and Nahito hook up together (in my creative imagination) have 3 children who all have their Daddy's scowl with their Mom's over-dramatic gestures.Actually, I think they would be opposite of their parents and be people of kindness, modesty, and intelligence. They would focus on school and ignore the traps of highschool classmate fandom. I think having these sorts of children would round out the family of hyper mom and gruff dad. . .hehehe

I'm sure though, that Motoko would be happy to know that Yuki didn't end up with Kimi Todo. I can imagine the look on Yuki's face But I wonder how she would have reacted if she found out that Yuki ended up with Machi, because if I remember correctly, Machi and Motoko never met during the series. She probably heard about her though, but for sure they didn't cross paths.

I was thinking: Machi and Motoko never met; it's true but if I remember correctly at some point there was a scene between the fan girls and Machi. One can't talk about Motoko without mentioning the girls. Anyways, I think one of the girls asked Machi if Yuki didn't look great or anything like that and her reply was that he seemed sad and the girls were horrified by her answer. I think that one of the things that Mokoto didn't understand during the early days of her obsession with Yuki was the fact that the boy actually did have a life and most of the times it wasn't a happy life at all. They perceived him (Motoko as well) as a very pretty face (yes, this also can be said with the boys too ) and nothing more. They were so infatuated with him that they missed anything real about him. That's why I'm actually still convinced that though Motoko might have perceived something more about Yuki, in her mind he will always be the dream boy that she never had and that perhaps she might have had if she wouldn't have been so damn superficial.
Oh, I think that some children of both Nao and Motoko would scare the hell out of me. But I would have liked to see what has happened with her afterwards.

Yes, having that image of him I think was unfortunate because they never got to know the real Yuki like other people were able to do. I think had it not been for Tohru Yuki might have kept to himself his whole high school life, and they might have gone more crazy for him or even made their moves.
BTW, here's tonight's hint for next week: Blinded for love, yet he must continue to heal others.

Aha! Hatori, right?
Speaking of him, was it Motoko and the Prince Yuki club who had their yaoi fangirl moment when Hatori first appeared? If I remember correctly, it was when Yuki was in the dress during his first year culture fest. Hatori and Momoji turn up and Hatori makes some off-hand remark about Yuki turning into a girl. Yuki's reply was about the number of times Hatori has seen him naked. Some of the girls in the room were disappointed when they discovered it was a more, um, professional relationship than they were imagining.
Oh, and my first Fruits Basket DVD arrived today. I'm finally starting the anime. I'm looking forward to it.

That's one of those remarks that any shojo fangirl looks forward to. And yes that's the correct answer on who we'll be discussing next week. Glad that the anime is getting to you murph, I think you will enjoy it to be honest. Just know what to expect when you get towards the end.
[OT] I had this weird dream last night. I dreamed that I was in this music store and Taylor Hicks walked in there because he wanted to buy some CDs.

Oh, something tells me that I will really like this week's topic. I'm sorry but I just can't help myself when talking about Hatori. One of most dearest characters in the manga. Can't wait for your opening post, fighterholic!
Btw, murph, enjoy the anime! Glad that you have finally the chance to have a look at them. I told you you are a funny guy! I didn't remember the scene between Hatori and Yuki until you mentioned it. Thanks for reminding me of it.

Yes, I think there's potential for some very interesting discussions this upcoming week, and I think that we're going to have a nice round of posts for Hatori like we did Hana-chan. His story is 75% rounded up in the American releases, with only a few important details missing in the later volumes. I'm pretty sure that we're going to have fun this week.

Therefore we say goodbye to our obsessed Motoko today. It was fun to talk about some really infatuated girls with a boy that didn't pay much attention to them most of the times.
Therefore we shall wait for your post, fighterholic! I agree with you, btw: I think that we shall have some really interesting discussions about Hatori.

Well, the answer was pretty much given away, but I am excited to see what kind of discussions we'll be able to have with Hatori week
Indeed, his character in the beginning is that of a tragic past, his love of his life gone because of her blaming herself for what happened to him. At times he was thought to be a cold person as well, since with his art to reset people's memories, he didn't think too often about what would happen to his "patients". On certain occasions we have seen how at times erasing people's memories have brought some sort of strange connection to Hatori and some of the other characters in the story, but I'll leave that discussion to all of you to bring out. And last, how his life got a little easier when Tohru was brought into the picture. And a whole lot of other things come to mind, but if I keep talking then none of my other colleagues will get to say anything. Therefore,
Characters related to Hatori:
- Kana
- Mayu
- Tohru
- Shigure
- Ayame
- Akito
- Yuki
- Kyo
- Ritsu
- Momiji
There are probably others, so if I have missed anybody feel free to mention them in our discussions. Anyways, everybody, welcome to Hatori week!!

Oh, dear Hatori... I think that I have liked this character form the very first moment because I felt that it must have been more to him than what was shown at the surface and therefore I discover one of the best developed characters in the manga with an interesting background story, with a capacity of dealing with the strangest people ever and gaining respect from them Ayame, dear Ayame and finally being able to move along and perhaps start a new life.
I think that one of most interesting relationships that exit in the manga is the one between Hatori and Shigure. They are quite different and you seem unable to see these two at the beginning being really good friends. There's something in the slyness of Shigure which makes one think if there wouldn't be any possibility of him hurting his best friend. Granted that he worked behind his back a few times (when sending him to Mayu ) but I think that Shigure wouldn't have ever tried to hurt Hatori. I think that Hatori is just one of those rare people that gain respect just by being themselves with no other hidden meanings attached to them. I felt that Shigure knew all that and that in a way he was always glad to have a friends like Hatori. Now I don't know what to say about Hatori and what he felt for his friend. I think that in a way Hatori always admired Shigure's courage to move out of the Sohma house hold and to be able to make that complicated plan in order to manipulate everybody and get at the end Akito back. I remember a scene in which Hatori confesses to Shigure that he doesn't like necessarily the plan but that it is a good thing and that he admires him to be able to fight like this for something that he wants so much. Hatori is also one of the people that knows most about Shigure (if this things is actually possible, cause the slug is pretty complicated ) and he also knows one of the most feared secrets in the Sohma house hold: Akito is actually a woman and most importantly she was in love with Shigure.
Sometimes it is impossible to see how come Hatori and Shigure, two men so different are so good friends. For example when Kana was about to marry and Shigure thought that it would be ebst for all to go to the country. He made everybody go to the Hatori's family summer house. There are some scenes there which made me think that these guys know themselves so well. For example, Hatori realised almost right away that Shigure with his leaving played a prank to his editor. Then when confessing that he is bored Shigure tells him that he has brought lots of good books just for him to read and when Hatori confesses that it has been a long time since he was able to read peacefully a good book, Shigure has one of his rare gentle face expression. There were some funny scenes there cause there comes the third musketeer: Ayame. Who wants to prepare tea for Hatori, who says everything to Hatori. who wishes Hatori to be two thousand happier than Kana.....
Ok, I have to stop now, but I'll be back later with a vengeance.

Ayame may be one of the world's biggest flakes but he also has one of the world's biggest hearts as well. When he told Hatori to be two thousand times happier than Kana, I got the feeling that Ayame was pretty pissed off at Kana because she wasn't strong enough to be there for Hatori. Hatori has to be strong for everyone else but even the strongest people need someone to be strong for them.
I think that's why Shigure hooked Mayu and Hatori together. I think it would have been "Lights Out Akito!" if she had tried to pull that guilt crap with Mayu.
